This is on the side of my 3Bii block. Original engine, vehicle construction date 07/1989:

Now I read this as '9' meaning 1989, and '6' meaning June. or could it be Week 6 of 1989? No idea what UB means!

Wondering if anyone knows more or can correct me?

Before anyone chimes in with it, no, these are not the casting marks indicating the choice of STD size main bearing shells. (1/2/3 etc).

Thanks

Daihatsu sort of follows the same engine date numbering that Toyota does.

9= year
6= month
U= day of month (20th manufacturing day of month of June in 1989 = 27th. “I” and “O” are not used as not to confuse “1” and “0”)

B= could indicate shift (2nd shift) or could indicate manufacturing assembly line B

The first three definitely correspond to JIT protocols.
