Re-Powering my 40?!

Did you ever try to contact Cruisersolutions.com over in Hampstead? Maybe they might have something in their shop that could help you. I had heard that they had a good reputation. I love the purist input over in this section. When I rebuilt my F motor, most everyone told me I was crazy, , that it was a boat anchor and just to throw a 350 in it and go. $4,000.00 later, I am happy with the decision. I would also agree that keeping the original engine, #'s matching, with the truck makes it more valuable like Corvette's. As these Cruisers become more rare in stock form, there values are sure to increase. Good luck with your project.

Moving forward once more.

After scraping a few $$ together I am again on the repower road. I've contacted one mechanic/LC junkie and we are planning to go the F155, 4sp/3spd route.
In the meantime, when I was sorta saving money, I cleaned up a few things and started going down the road of getting my back-up tractor (1946 Ford 2N) up and running. The tractor spent 12 months or so in a back field waiting for me to get to it. But that is another forum? In any event, forward we go.

Hope all had a good Thanksgiving.

Cool. Please document the process. I just picked up a 4spd; maybe I'll wait and let the gremlins jump your rig first. :D

You might want to contact Mark, well that is if you want to keep the vintage column shifter, as he made an adapter to make it a 4-on-the-tree :)

4 on the tree does sound interesting. Hummmmm..

why.. 3 on the tree is awesome for a stock cruiser

Absolutely, but he's decided to go with an F155 and 4speed since he yanked the F135 out bout a month or so ago...so might as well stick with the column shifter...which is what I'd do with if I went with a 4speed :hillbilly:

Did you mean marksoffroad.net? If so he only got as far as prototype. Nothing available. Darn...

Really...I thought it was already a go :frown:

Yea, it kinda sounded like it didn't get too far. Oh well. I would have had even more work to do since my 3spd is a side shifter (1963 and earlier) and his kit and my FST with its oddities would be incompatible.

She's off to Wally's!

Today I loaded up the de-engined fj40 and trailered her 100 miles through the snowy mountains of Vermont to Wally's for a new F155. A beautiful place with a shop sporting a heated floor!

I'll let you all know how it goes.

Glad to hear it. I spoke to several people at the NE fall gathering in Hancock, NH and they all think Wally is a good guy to bring your cruiser to. It is a bit of a drive, but I think it will soon be forgotten and I drive my 40 around. Of course since I am topless a bit of warmer weather would be nice.

Engine Progress....

Well Wally has her and is working away. As of a couple of days ago I believe the engine, tranny, transfer case were all together and they may even be in the truck. We had a hiccup with the t-case as MAF had sent the wrong bearing out in their 4spd-3spd kit but Wally straightened them out. I'll have to see if I can get a pic or two to post up.

New engine in!!

Whee..:D
