So I know a few of you guys dabble in sports car type stuff so I figured here is a good place to post this.

For the second time I’ll be doing Brock Yates One Lap of America this year. For those not in the know, this is what the cannonball run turned into. Instead of racing coast to coast we drive all over the county, the distance of the total loop is roughly going coast to coast. We drive from race track to race track, and the only thing that counts is times at the track, not how fast you make it to the track.

Some of the transit runs are long/boring/brutal in a car with super stiff suspension, race seats, minimal noise deadening, etc. but it’s a total blast. Sadly I won’t be racing as I’m hired as a transit driver, and I’m not very skillful on a racetrack. I was lucky enough to get picked to join due to a small role I played in building the cars and my knowledge of VW’s. Here’s a pic of this years route and the cars we took back in 2016. I leave May 3rd, and believe me I’ll have plenty of pics.

That’s awesome Blair!! It would be so cool to be involved in any capacity at an event like this. What I wouldn’t give for a few moments behind the wheel of one those VW’s! :steer:

They are sitting close to 450whp. When I drove in 2016 they had rally car transmissions with straight cut gears and sequential shift. Pretty crazy and a total blast to drive.

This years version has the same engine but with a DSG (dual clutch, automatically shifted manual transmission). I’m looking forward to not having to have a headset to talk to my co-driver and being able to hear myself think.

To say the least haha. It’s certainly not for the feignt of heart. It’s A LOT of driving. Very little sleep and a lot of on the fly engineering.

When I went in 2016 our car didn’t finish. It spit a gear out of the trans putting a softball size hole in the case. It was right outside of Dallas. Fourtuneatly it was right near a friends house and we ditched the car in his garage and we flew home.

Yes. It’s like gt1, gt2, alternative fuel, vintage American, vintage European, etc. You can pretty much run anything. No rules as for power, modifications, safety. It’s pretty wild. You could run your 4Runner if you wanted. Here’s some pics of random cars in the event back in 2016.

I was talking to Gary about this today. I’m sure most of you have seen this, if not it’s a great reminder to keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all times.

@jtaco1 was right behind him when that happened. I believe it was on trail 13 @ ec4rj. I think his young daughter witnessed that too.
