Dgangle is using the stock plug wires from an early vette if I am not mistaken...they route under the manifold and work well....Do you know the year of that wire application for our wire roasting friend??

Cheers

Should be the same as for the manifolds themselves...

'70-'74 Corvette...

There were a couple applications for passneger cars sometime during that period also...

Nothing special about these wires....no specific application. Just a generic set of HEI-compatible 8mm wires cut to fit.

small (1 7/8") or large (2 1/2") manifold?

I ran the smaller manifold for years with no problems but with the larger manifold the plugs near the down tube suffer from melted plugs. I use straight plugs and the insulation tube from Summit Racing which seems to help some but after a while they still burn through. A thinner plug end seems to be slightly better also.

No, no, no.
Run the wires behind each head and up to each plug. Been like this for 5+ years and going strong. In the block directly behind each head is a 1/4X20 threaed hole. Take a long bolt or all-threaeded rod, with a nut to use as a locknut and this keeps the wires tucked in nicely.

Mine Look just like yours.. Except i have $100 worth of plug wires all Burnt to crap in my garage.. so, either your plug wires are different than mine or my EGT's are way too hot..

I had some Autolite plug wires at first, they worked OK, but burnt thru a wire runnning by the oil pan..

Are the Vette Application Wires Straight or 90Degree boots??

So far i like Rangers Soulution with Straight boots and sleaving on the inner cyl's

Thanks to all that have answered, this is all some good info..

Any possible way that the Paint i used is creating more heat than others?? I used Bar-B-Q paint from Home depot..

No, no, no.

OEM heat shields will protect the boots.

Looks like 74 Corvette wires will work once I get to the TPI conversion.

Funny you bumped this 15+ years later.
I just recovered my password & logged in for the first time in years.

Ironically, just ordered some new plug wires that came this week. Got some heat sleeves as well for the plug end. Note that these are straight ended vs 90*

this is the problem solver. I've run 2 1/2 dump ramshorn since the late 80s and no plug wire lasted without these

if you need to run the temp sensor in the block.......

Mine are OEM from a 1972 Chevy Fleet side. My ‘69 Bel Air SBC also had them. Never had any problems.
