What are you guys running for Heat protection on ramshorn Manifolds

My Plug Wire Boots are melting on the 2 inner plugs..

Summit has a buch of products for hose and wire sleeves..

Also, Alot in the Archives about plug wires, but no real answers for what works and what dosent.. some say Big block wires, some say Straight boots,..

Ive Tried the Accel Build your own wires 90degree boots, they melted thru.. same with the borg warrner ones..

Here's a couple old pics I found

I second the ceramic coating.

I run 90* boots with extra long cables.
I have them turned downward to help avoid the heat (which rises up).

Haven't had any problems.

Chevy musta had that problem too, cause they designed some heat shields to bolt in between the wires and manifolds... :)

I bought a set from a dealer...Too long ago to remember the price, but they couldnt have been TOO pricey, or I wouldnt'a bothered... :D

'70-'74 Corvette used them....

Post yer manifold casting number, and I could get ya a little bit closer on the exact application to ask them for....
If ya want...

Plug

Straight plug cheapo's from the local parts store. Work just fine with mine.

I have had issues with wires touching (which is my fault), but not the boots.

I had the fancy red wires and they smoked :(( I ended up getting a couple rolls of the plug wire shields pictured above and haven't had any trouble since. Mine melted right at the plug connector. I used enough on each one to bring it up around the manifold to the wire loom above the valve covers. I flipped the looms and spaced them off the cover to move them farther away.

I had the same problem. To fix it I used the straight boot wire and put the heat sleeve over the two inner wires on both banks (3,4,5,6). No more melted boots.
Another good investment is a good set of wire dividers, looks neater and keeps the wires away from heat and away from each other. Voltage can bleed over from one wire to another.

No, no, no.

Run the wires behind each head and up to each plug. Been like this for 5+ years and going strong. In the block directly behind each head is a 1/4X20 threaed hole. Take a long bolt or all-threaeded rod, with a nut to use as a locknut and this keeps the wires tucked in nicely.

Jake,
I don't understand your post. You have or have not had problems running the wires behind the heads? If so please elaborate.

Down, behind the manifold, then around the back of the head is the way they were originally designed stock....

Theres cheap stock mounts for the wires available, if you want a clean look...

Jacobs makes some wires for super hot conditions. Ceramic boots with super hi temp silicone.

Dgangle is using the stock plug wires from an early vette if I am not mistaken...they route under the manifold and work well....Do you know the year of that wire application for our wire roasting friend??

Cheers
