no numbers, but I'll go ahead and make a blanket statement "R12 is hands down colder than R134a"...

Yeah, that's pretty accurate.

Some of the Hydrocarbon refrigerants are very good as well. I'm using Duracool R12a and it's quite good.

I'm running pretty much 100% R134 at this time in my 62 (there may be a little Freeze 12 left, but not much). I get down to 38 once the cab cools down, even in 90+ heat. When it's cooler outside, say around 75 outside, then I see 34-36 degree air at the vents.

I'm using stock everything with on my 62. And, again, I get 40 degree air.

If you only have 60 degree air at the vents, then you are probably overcharged, if I had to guess. It should be able to perform almost as good, if not just as good, as R12.

No, I have basically 100% R134. I was running Freeze 12, which is over 90% R134 and I had a small leak. Most of that, if not all, leaked out and I replaced it with R134. Since then, my temps at the register have been in the 40's no matter how hot outside and will pull down to 40 even when in the 90's outside once the cabin is cool. If the outside temp is in the 70's, the temp I see at the register will regularly pull down to 36 and I've seen as cool as 34-35. That's stock compressor, dryer, condenser, etc. The only change was the refrigerant.

34 in 70 series w/ R12 in 100+ Tucson, AZ summer heat w/ hd-t, w/ 13B-T is was unbearable about 31 at vent w/ R12. might be due to charge or different compressor and age.

42 (at best) w/ 134A in 2000 isuzu trooper

37 in 2005 tacoma, R134A

temps should be measured 1" from vent. If you enter the vent it can be cooler.

and you would die here w/ 58 degree vent temp FYI. Open your windows because 2x55 is better than that.

Sounds like I may need to check my charge. Had a leak at one of the valve cores last summer, fixed and filled with r12 and was all good. Checked a few months back to make sure it was going to be ready for summer and, can't remember the exact number, but was in the mid 40's. Sounds like this may be a little warmer than it should be:confused: Maybe I still have a very slight leak and needs to be topped off with refrigerant again.

WOW! 31*!

I don't know the numbers but I do know that I can't really tell the difference between my old and fully charged r12 system and my converted r134 system.

I'm sure r12 is colder, but who cares if it's cold enough and I can refill for $15 a can!

I just dropped mine at my guy for the afternoon. I threw a new drier and o rings on and he is going to see what he can do. I'll check the numbers if it isnt leaking too bad.

Wow no leaks and the compressor works. A little under 40 at the vents in fresh and it feels damn cold on a hot summer day

Today, they basically rebuilt the whole AC system on my 92 FJ80, minus the condenser, and about a grand gone, the temp at the vents were 60 degrees (R134). The AC technician told me to bring it back tomorrow to him because he said that a valve he replaced seemed to be defective and he was going to replace it. After he checks the temp again tomorrow, I will let you know the final results.
