Hello knights. After staring at my piggy for a while today, I decided that I'm going to remove the windshield and rear cargo windows soon, and was wondering if anyone has done this and can give me some pointers. I'd rather not learn the hard way and end up needing new windows as well as seals after paint! Also, I was wondering if anyone has installed one of SOR's replacement headliners, and had some tips on that as well. I will be buying one of those eventually. Thanks!!

Ah, come on man, lol, was hoping someone had a direct link? I tried the search window for a while, but wasn't having any luck.

I still can't link for **** but CruiserMax had a thread "Headliner Woes" and then there's "tips on installing headliner" by battle and then there's also Headliner which was posted by Lil' John

Good luck.....I have one but haven't installed yet

More interested in the rear cargo window seals than the headliner, since that comes first, so...

Que?...you can not put the cargo window seals in until you have the headliner in. If you are asking about removal then that is SOP windshield rubber removal...you have to cut the old rubber carefully and pull the window out. That is cutting rubber out in sections...slowly particularly if the rubber is really brittle. I have not done mine but have talked to a couple of window guys.

If you are not going to do it any too soon I will get back to you when I make my practice run on my 7/70 55 carcass.

BTW- a couple of those folks on that thread have some other links that may give you what you want.

I removed the rear cargo windows using a shard razor, started from the outside and cut straight into the rubber (to the right of the glass) straight down on one side, pull the cut piece off and then along the top, do the same and just make sure your holding the glass when pulling the rubber so it doesn't fall out. Easy as pie, my rubber was hard and cracked so the hardest part was cutting thru it.

Thanks guys! The reason I said the windows came first is because I was worried about the removal process. This clears that up. I'm also thinking of having a custom headliner made in the future that will be a little different, so My windows will probably go back in way before a headliner, and then I may come up with a different system for attaching it. Thanks for the help!

Those cargo window gaskets are pricey, so you really want to decide what you want to do before you replace those.

Oh, believe me, I know they are expensive. Everything I want to do to my pig is!!! Such is the price for pig-love!

The problem I have is that I'm going to be putting my piggy on a Rotisserie to do the body work and I'm pretty sure I don't want the windows in it for that. I think the stresses on the body would make the windows crack. Any input on this? Experiences?

i'm looking at doing this soonish and was going to attempt to save the rubbers and glass. ive heard/read a few say you can push the windows out and preserve the seals.. just takes patience, care and a bit of attention..

you don't have to cut the windshield or cargo window weatherstrip to get the windows out. Get a screwdriver or something similar and pry the weatherstrip down while gently pushing from the inside out on the windows.

Then use the string trick (search) to reinstall.

I've had those pieces of glass out numerous times for rust repair. Glass and weatherstrip was re-used every time.

I’m wanting to go ahead and replace my cargo window weatherstripping when I get going on paint work. Still can’t seem to search up anything definitive - especially since some of these threads are over 10 years old.

There aren’t any new ones available. People have used windshield rubber but I think you have to use two per side and cut and glue them. And I just found this thread where a Chevy rear window rubber was used and it looks pretty good and cheap. Cargo Window Gasket Option

Phenomenal! Thank you for searching out that thread @JD Films !

No problem. I got lucky and found a new set a guy had for mine but I would have probably tried the Chevy ones if I knew about it then. I need to find an alternative for the rear doors fixed window rubber. Those were even more expensive at $450 when Slo Cruisers had them.
