Looks good!

I am currently looking for ideas on how the least restrictive way of putting two ResoNix GUS15 in my LX.

I am going to remove my 3rd seats so I can haul things without putting them on my seats.

Hey guys….. I stop by on occasion to check out the stuff you all are doing in audio and I have to say you guys are into some very cool projects…a bit crazy too…..and I thank you for it. As for my custom sound in the 40… took the advice given and got these from SOR and the Crutchfield Morel speakers. Thanks again for the information!

Since I am fairly comfortable hacking up A-Pillars, do you want to move the tweeters to the pillars? Pillar covers are about 30 bucks on E-Bay.

Have you considered building a false floor enclosure? GUS will be a relatively shallow unit, not hungry for enclosure volume, so it makes me think that a properly thought-out setup will host sub/amps/DSP all in one.

My man! Glad it worked out great. Enjoy!

I disturbed the alcantra during the install, now I have to hit it with some heat to smooth it out. Next on the plate are the trim for the pods, the front sub box, and the amp rack.

Sometime down the line, I will open up two center channels via a pair of Utopias or Aerospace mids. My GF is an audiophile, too, so a two-seat tune is a must.

Got my setup tuned by Amplified Autosport via JL MAXX, what a step up from a dingus (me) with a single mic. This is my 3rd pro tune, and I come away astonished every time. This is the key to any great sound system. Stout install and tuning of basic Focals will outpace an Accuton front stage (about 9K for 6 speakers) that was poorly installed and tuned. All day everyday.

Run down of key developments during an install and final tune.

Tweeters and midranges were moved from their OEM locations to the A-Pillars in an off-axis manner. So far, this setup is great, even though our vehicles have no dashboard. Front stage kinda envelopes you. *Midranges perform best when the dash and pillars have some distance between themselves and your ears*

Esotar650 midbass units remain in the door cavities for now. I will fiberglass pods into door cards sometime this year. Midbasses do not care for door-mounted infinite-baffle setups, no matter what their specs suggest. They all sound their best in sealed pods or true infinite baffles, which means they have to vent to the outside via a cutout in the floor. Speakers themselves are superb.

Soundigital GaN 1500.5 amps are fantastic, very clean-sounding. I can't tell the difference between them and the A/B units that I had in the past.

Focal 5 KM front sub. This is a wild card at the moment; it hasn't been broken in yet, so I can't tell just how good it sounds.

SI SQL-12 in a new custom box is acceptable. I am still trying to find the best way to position it, and most definitely looking for a replacement. I want to move to shallow subs.

I can imagine the thrills this sound system provides. I do not have anything like this worth going through the perfections you have achieved…but

Back in 1971 or ‘72….My friend Mike bought a set of Cerwin Vega earthquaker sub woofers to add to his other Cerwin Vega speakers, Crown amplifiers, high end tone arm, etc.etc.etc. We sat in his basement listening to The Allman Brothers ..Live at the Fillmore. He actually had a SPL meter ( not really a home item then) and it was peaking on several scales over 122dB. The percussive impact of those subs was remarkable. We sat there stupidly until the electric meter reader came walking down the steps to read the meter and looked at us like. ….WTF?

As for purity of sound…it was amazing….good luck to you, careful driving!

Can you share some more photos of your pillars?

Just got some hertz mids and a set of a pillars. 3d printed some front baffles to mount the tweeter and mids on and would love to see what others have done.

I always did wonder what Car Audio was like back in the day. Thank you for sharing that. It sounds like your friend was/is a music junkie, like me. I recently did a deep dive into vintage car audio on my friend's behalf; he has a '69 Camaro, and I floated the idea of installing a "period correct" stereo. He quickly declined, haha.

Around 1988 when I had my 4 door Chevy pickup and had installed all of those Alpine units and amps.. one of the best car audio experiences was still ‘ Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits

The beginning has this ethereal echo type verse “ I want my MTV”. It came thru like those old style Leslie rotating horn speakers used for organs and keyboards. That sound swirled around the cab…the the alternating tom Tom’s of the drums started the intro…when you get a chance, just listen to that 1 minute section.

With good separation and frequency control…it is truly remarkable the way it was mixed

Oh yeah! I play Dire Straits and CCR quite a bit, timeless tunes.

Noticed a little bit of resonance coming from the left door card as of late, so I went to war with it. Door card itself is fairly new and mostly untreated, so I treated some more. While I was in there, the adaptor was retooled as well. Its density increased, and it was deepened so it could accommodate a layer of CCF tape. Fitment is as bespoke as it gets, no loosey goosey business here. All resonance is gone.

Even a single mic tuned with all harsh peaks flattened, everything time aligned for the driver, and individual crossover points on all drivers to match each other in frequency response and amplitude would be completely game changing for most people that have never heard that in their cars. I always recommend a dsp to people. That's been the biggest breakthrough in consumer car audio since I started messing with this stuff in the mid 90s.

Game-changing is the proper term indeed. I had my system tuned "by the ear" in the past with great results, but it does not even come close to a tune via DSP.

Gee…next time I’m in Florida you’re gonna have to give me a ride somewhere to listen to this…

By the way what is your “go to” sample recording to play once you believe you all tuned up? We used to use Dave Brubeck …take five…that was a long time ago

Diana Krall's California Dreaming. It was a part of 2024 SQ competition playlist, I stuck with it since then.

If you are ever in Tampa area, sure thing.

@Berkut10r naturally I am a few decades older but in all of the time I had lived in Florida, I was never on the west coast. Moved to Hollywood in ‘61 as a 4th grader, Dania a few years later. In Miami I got a drivers license at 15 and went to high school a few blocks from the Parrot Jungle. Now a few old farts my age left NJ and seemingly all live near Tampa…, thanks for the invite!

I have to get hold of Diana Krall’s version. It appears that there are several places to stream it but I have to believe ain’t nothin’ like the real cut. Can streams provide a full spectrum ?

Yes, they can. However, your phone needs to be plugged in, and the cable (optical or coaxial) needs to be run to the processor or your amps. Then it will open the floodgates and allow you to play Hi-Res.
