Lots of posts on Scepter/Wedco/Blitz fuel containers. As far as I can tell though, no commentso on the cheapo Blitz plastic fuel cans found at Shucks/GI Joe/Fred Meyer/etc. These are pretty affordable - ~ $15 for a 5gal container.

Any experience?

No experience, but you could go for and tell us how it goes.

However, the NATO style are the best in my opinion.

I have three heavy guage plastic containers that are ex-military and very good quality (I also have one metal version as well). They don't leak and they don't smell. I can't remember who makes them, but they are very good.

I thought that most of the military gas and water cans are now made of plastic?

Cheers, Hugh

I have plastic gas cans, prolly even Blitz. Just put some extra go juice in my lil car for a quick trip up to N NM for 60 body parts, and spilled more than I cared to as I poured. The quicky spout doesn't seat well, and it took many minutes for the 5gal to go in. The sides angle in for base stability, which means off-road use would require some interesting tiedowns. (I've only gone OR for firewood, haven't burned more than a couple tanks of sawgas at a time).

I've used the plastic water cans for hauling same, and even the internal heat of car puffs them up pretty well.

That said, I'll keep using them til I can afford Sceptre. my pennies worth...

I have cheapo plastic blitz cans that I have for the lawnmower, the plastic can is fine, but the lids all have leaked on 2-3 that I have owned. I would never keep one in/on a vehicle longer than it takes to get to the gas station and back, but these are the ~3 gallon ones, the bigger ones might have better lids/spouts...

I am convinced that in the language of the country where Blitz cans are made, the word "Blitz" means "To spill a dangerous amount of fuel upon one's self, his vehicle, and the ground, but not much in the tank."

The Fueling my rig with Leaky BLITZ Fuel can's most dangerous thing I ever done ......Dusty

Blitzkrieg: "Blitz war" in German - the Germans would drop blitz cans on the Allies; the Allies would attempt to use them and poison/blow themselves up. The Germans, in the meantime, used metal jerrycans. A bit of trivia...

Blitz plastic jugs are the work of the devil. I have Wedco for gas, water and chainsaw 50:1 and I haven't looked back.

Thanks for the posts. Pretty much confirmed my own perception. No question the Scepter cans look to be the best choice. But, with two kids in private school, I have to watch every penny. Can't abide purchasing crap though. After reading lots of posts I purchased from http://www.sportsmansguide.com/. Ordered 4 of the swiss military 5 gal cans. Need 'em for a trip to River Shiver. Not sure how to mount them yet, but will figure something out. Read some good posts on these, and at $15 ea, seemed like a reasonable choice.

lovetoski, I'd like to know if those cans leak at all after you try them out. Please post a note.

I will post up how they work for sure! Either way, leak or no-leak.

A note on the Scepter cans, check your local Army/Navy, there a several from CDN surplus that are showing up. I'd seen them in Sportsman's Guide a few months ago, and now they're at a couple of surplus places here in Salt Lake, $15 ea.

x3! Filled the 5gal %#itz mentioned in above post. No leaks the first 7 miles, but that let the damn thing heat up enough to spit gas out the next 12, and now my truck stinks like gas.

Can't wait to hear about the Israeli cans, might have a bonfire w/the @$itz.

I am another pi$$ed Blitz customer

Bought 2 @ a local parts house, took them to the gas station and filled them, by the time I was home (2-3 miles) I had TWO frickin large puddles of gas on my carpet ... I emptied them into a drum and took them right back to the store. I told the guy that they leaked like Grandma with a bladder problem, and at first he gave me a bad time, " well they are used now, and I cant take back something that smells like fuel " And I said... " Uh, how else are you supposed to find out that they SUCK ??!! " He thought for a moment and said " gee, good point ! "

I lucked out that time, `cause I wasnt stuck with those piece of crap cans.. ;p

Yes, that's how I got mine (for C$10 each - although the group did buy something like 50). Two things to check with surplus (1) the center part is still there and (2) the rubber gasket is still there. Some were missing in our lot and people had to buy new gaskets (obviously critical to prevent leaks)
