to simplify matters either cut the original engine mounts off the donor frame or order new.
so simple, so clean.
then bolt them to the engine properly and you are ready to drop into place AFTER you exchange any 24V senders etc to 12V units off the old 2LTE

swap the 12V start motor from the 2LTE to the nose cone from the PZ, simple, easy, cheap.

you will need a 12V alternator, i had one on the shelf so i was okay. the 2LTE one does nto fit the PZ mount.
i am not sure if you need to change out the oil sender or not but i did anyway to be safe
you will need a 12V fuel shut down, the one off the 2LTE does not work.

and in the new engien goes for the test fit, tack the motor mounts and remove the engine again to do final weld and clean up.
the shifters fit perfectly into the PZ manual tranny cover plate with the R141 (the R151 is the same size)
the tranny cross member is too far back from the auto for the manual so a mod will be needed. the rear inner holes of the manual cross member matches with the front inner holes of the auto so...
so far i am happy with the results.
the lift kit should be here on tues

the motor mounts located
the clearence for the oil pan.

total time, including screw up, is 24 hours to now.

still to do:
tack the motor mounts
build a tranny cross member
remove the engine
install clutch and components
reinstall steering box
clean up welds and paint
reinstall engine
install wiring and after market gauges
install front clip
prep and paint
install exhaust
install lift
top up fluids

done.

how tight a stock LJ engine bay is

Possibly part of the 2LT problem. So much crap behind the radiator restricts how much can be drawn through it.

:eek::eek:
You dont fcuck around at all geez
this is a awsum conversion
cant wait to see the back end choped off and a tray aswell

i will be driving it as a 4 door wagon for the winter DD then next summer i will do the chop and extend...

Looking good - of course that is the part of a swap/project where big progress is made, and it looks easy and fast. Both you and I know the pain, frustration, and the success of the project comes from all the 100's of little detail things that come next, where you try to make it reliable, neat and professionally done.

I am surprised at the lack of a significant front cross-member in the hybrid frame - I haven't gone to look at my HZJ to see what it has stock, but that little pipe thing at the very front doesn't look like enough to this eye.. Consider the torque loads on the frame rails, from the weight of the engine and the front suspension mounts.. The stock leaf spring in the HD's load the frame much differently than the coil mounts. I'm not saying it's a problem, but something to look at and think about.

that tube is factory and the only support side to side that any of the HD 7* land cruisers have. after the abuse i have put the HD &8 series through i am not concerned in the least. the coil suspension doesn't even come close to utilizing this support since all the stress is behind the "new' additional frame.
if i suspect any tortional stress being a factor then it is easy enough to run another stress tube across.
but
thanks for pointing that out.

i do feel that if anything was to stress that frame member it would have been the shackles of the original leafs when dropping into a hole and turning ...

cheers

Eric, please do just call first to make sure i am here.

thanks for the compliments guys.

Somebody should buy one of these and see what it would take to make it fit. $150 for a new alternator with a vac pump seems like a good deal.

Hello,

That tube can take a lot of abuse. Ask me how I know.

Nice project, it is looking good. Way to go Wayne!

It is kind of sad, however, to see the PZJ70 go. She was a good rig, so to speak. On the other hand, a PZJ78 will surely kick ass...

the old PZJ70 rocked, and to be honest i tossed and turned about the decision a few times, i loved that truck... but, as i said, i get bored easy...
the length of the 78 might make wheeling a bit more challenging when "threading the needle" between the trees...

True, but when you smash the heck out of the rear quarters you'll know it's time to head back into the shop and start chopping. Make sure you get some nurfs on there soon to protect the doors though.
