So I talked to cruiser teq and he took my vin number. He couldn’t look up the actual individual part numbers that make up the kit I bought from them but He said the kit I have won’t work for my truck. Kit said 81-86 and mine is an 86 but something about the vin he told him it was the wrong kit. So I’ll have to get on the phone with his tech guys next week and get that sorted out. I’m out on the head gasket for the weekend and I don’t want to use any of the other gaskets out of the kit until I get that sorted. I’ve got plenty to do in the mean time.

Thanks for the tip @Godwin I’ll reseal the wp before i install.

The 61030 has less holes despite the head being the same 11101-61040 casting head in both 83 and 87 for example. So while the head casting stayed the same, Toyota changed the gasket in 1985, showing both as an option for some months in 1985. As such, it's my opinion they will both in fact work, hence why NOK (manufacture of gaskets/seals for Toyota) lists them as the same for 1/75-8/87 2F motors. However, the 61030 will also absolutely work.

For a bunch of side by side OEM and Japanese aftermarket head gaskets, check out this: F, 2F (and 3F for giggles) Head Gasket Tech & Reference - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/f-2f-and-3f-for-giggles-head-gasket-tech-reference.1280750/

Now, we have a different head gasket kit (EGGK61062OEM) that would have been a better option as it includes some other parts that changed in that same mid-85 split. BUT, like the head gasket, most superseded to the same part or are physically identical with the exception of the oil drain plug gasket, etc.

I'll reply to the email you've been corresponding on with the guys and the shop to follow-up on where to go from here. I'll be traveling again for a few weeks and won't likely have much Mud time :D

Nice truck… Congrats on the work so far.

Did your machine shop do the galley plug for you? If not it’s a lot easier to do with the head out. I recently did all this same work on my 2F. I had the machine shop do mine.

I got super lucky and had the late, great Marlin, founder of Marlin Crawler rebuild my carb for me. He liked to tinker with old toyota carbs and as long as you didn’t tell anyone he did it… He would rebuild them for some people. I would ship your carb and diz to Jim C and wait for them. Tell him your D-smogging and he’ll recurve your diz accordingly.

I get into all this work around page 10 on my build thread. Might answer some questions for you.

Also… two of my go to parts places are Georg at Valley Hybrids in Stockton, Ca and toyotapartsdeal.com
