hello all,
i am proud to say that i am a new owner of a 1973 fj55.
i am also proud to be a new member of this awesome website. before i bought
her i researched the fj55 model as i was unfamiliar with it. this website gave me all the info i needed to make a well informed decision. it is in very good shape body wise with very little rust. it has been sitting for about 5 years, so i need to
clean out the fuel system and rebuild the carb. it is all stock except the bumpers, rims (fj60) carb (1980s man-a-fre Rochester kit). well i need to go to work now. i promise to post more info and pics later.

info on new purchase of 1973 fj55

hello again and thanks for all the good comments!
i first noticed the fj55 a few years ago as it was right next door to my friends house. recently i thought i have not seen it move over the years i wonder if they want to get rid of it? so i put a note in their mailbox and asked if they might want to sell it. a couple of weeks went by and i thought, well i haven't heard from them so it must not be for sale. then i get a call from the owner and he says,"sure i would like to sell it when do you want to come over and see it." it was then i started doing heavy research on the fj55 on your website. he wanted 1,500 and he said it ran but had been sitting for 5 years. from what i could see from the road it looked good so i went over to check it out. we tried to start it but of course the fuel system was gummed up. so we poured some fuel in the carb and it did fire up enough to convince me the motor was ok. he said he is the third owner and he bought it from a woman who lived in el portal near yosemite. she bought it from the first owner who took it to baja. the guy i bought it from said he worked in yosemite and used it as a dd and woodcutting. the inside did smell like chainsaw oil and there were a lot of wood chips in the back. i think the chainsaw oil preserved the metal in the back as there is almost no rust back there. i told him how about 1,100? he said ok and the deal was done. and it had 4 brand new tires on it and a great spare! i plan on just getting it running and driving safe. i really do not have the money to do anything else to it. my wife was uncertain about it until it was home and then she loved it and wanted it to be her car! well we will see about that. her car now is a 1985 fj60 all stock that runs great. thats all for now. more pics coming in new thread.

That's fantastic! Buying a star will allow you to post more pictures or you can host the pics on a different website and then link them using one of the buttons at the top of the posting box or whatever it is called.

thanks

thanks, i will figure out the link to my pictures on one of the photo upload sites. does any one have a suggestion for a good site. does photobucket or flicker work?
using photos is a great tool to use on this website to identify parts and share knowledge about the fj55.

photos

thanks, for the great comments. i will set up photobucket with all the pics and link them to the site. it is a sunny day up here in the hills and i am starting to clean out the interior. thanks again.

Congratulations. 73s are cool... ask me how I know. ;)

link to pictures

i have my pics in photobucket. i am going to try to post a link to them. there will be many more to come as i am starting to work on her to get her on the road. while cleaning her i noticed that her original color was grey and white. thats ok i like the blue better. also the paint job was not done to cover up some hidden damage. i put a battery in her and found out the rear window does work but does have a bad plastic gear. all lights work except driver rear and one licence plate light. the head lights are still koito! the horn also works so i have the regular horn and a ah ooo ga horn as well. i will keep my progress posted.http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd480/john5266/fj551.jpg
