Gary,

Come on...we need pics...you have always been goo about post them inteh past...don't let us down...

Gary and I are alike in this respect
No pix =
1. Either too damn busy to fawk with 'em
2. Something is not nice enough to document

:D:D:D

Yep like he said......finally got some pics of stuff worth looking at. I needed to make an intake tube, but wanted to keep the factory 80 series air box so I bought mandrel bent pieces and had Joe Tig them together to form one piece then I made a block on the mill to mount the stock MAF into the tube. Painted and installed it looks like a stock part. Radiator will go in this weekend and I'll start on a shroud. At this point I am trying to stay with the stock mechanical fan, but if the shroud proves too elaborate, I'll go electric.

looks great Gary....glad to see it coming back together....hope to catch up with you agin sooner than later but probably August..

Gary as usual, that looks great. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I called Ben a few months ago and he said they were thinking about the conversion. I just didn't know it was yours they were starting with. I'll have to call him back and get more info. I'd love to swap out my motor for a Toyota V-8.

Keep going, the fate of the free world depends on this build. ;)

Dang...I mis read..what a let down when I saw you were welding an intake I expected an intake........ .....like this:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The conversion will be quite involved requiring an engine and tranny and lots of wiring to integrate into an 80. Mines about done and I am told that we will be doing Christos 80 as soon as mine is off the lift, so that will be the true 4.7 80 test mule.

We did one in a FJ60 and now we are working with Gary on this one. This allowed us to see how it fits in the 80 frame and a 'preview' of what issues we will have on the 80. Bottom line is it fits, but it is tight. Gary's is easy due to the body and it's location on the frame. The 80 body is going to give us a little more trouble. Wiring is getting easier and so far it is going well on that part.

That's great to hear. I can't wait to see it. Is there any reason you chose the 2001 Tundra motor over any of the other years? How about the transmission? What year is Christo going to be putting in his? Is a certain year better than others?

Thanks guys

There was no real reason to choose the Tundra engine over a 100 series. After doing the 60 series conversion and a buggy with a 4.7, the Slee guys found that a 100 series engine and transmission with a 01 Tundra 4x4 harness and computer are ideal. This combo would be the least amount of work. I just happened to find a Tundra 4x4 engine and 100 series tranny. I did have to swap to a 100 series oil pan though. As far as the years go, I don't think that the engine/tranny combo matters as much as the harness and ecu. This conversion is a huge amount of work and there are so many tricks involved that I wouldn't know where to begin. I know I will have over 100 hrs in it.

An additional advantage to the 100 engine is it was assembled in Japan with japanese components.

Thanks Gary. Great information.

Yep. You still need a Tundra 4x4 harness and thats a tough one to come up with. How much is it new?

Dunno off hand, I'll have to look one up. Could easily be a thousand bucks.

Ouch. That rules that out for the future.
Lots done today. Finished radiator mount, wiring, mounted ECU, and fixed some brake line issues. Tomorrow I'll make tranny cooler lines, AC lines and get the radiator and condenser permanently installed. Last bit of fab work is to make a plate to move the Hi/Low shifter forward the same inch that the whole drivetrain was moved. Then its off to the muffler shop and ready for a test drive.

Rears only?.........

Rears only?.........

Yeah, but that's a 55 . 55+55=110. Gary is putting a 100 series motor in so should almost be able to smoke both, right? :D

(if not we need to talk to Christo about a supercharger before it goes home :hhmm:)
