The tubes are now properly insulated

You'll also notice that the coil is now properly oriented. In the first pic of the thread you can see it hanging diagonally off the block because the valve cover is too bulged out to get the clamp on. That is unless you know that there are factory spacers available for just such a purpose.😉 And since I had to temporarily move the coil to properly route the heater hose against the side cover, I took care of that.

In running the hose along the side cover I discovered that the clearance behind the oil fill tube was tight. It took a minute until I remembered AGAIN that it has a mismatched block, and apparently the F145 tube and the F135 hole in the block were not designed for total compatability.

Moving down the side cover, it was time to lose the ricky-racer PCV breather and restore the stock setup. Where the 7/16" vacuum hose has never been a problem before, this time it was a non-starter. So I pulled a stock survivor out of the stash while a new roll of 12mm hose is en route.

And what's up with that battery cable stuffed in between the engine lift hook and the head?:headbang:

Cable moved to the battery support as intended.

It was actually fun to dig into the stash for the PCV hose holddown and the two side cover hose hangers, parts that not so many people even know BELONG to a proper reset.

You might be asking yourself why I did a workaround on the Delco dizzy when it is in the queue for replacement. Well, I don’t like introducing more variables into a situation than necessary. And since the motor was in a good state of tune with the Weber, just changing the manifolds would ordinarily be enough for me to want to test things again. So introducing a header (with marginal sealing) AND a rebuilt carburetor is already adventuresome enough.

Once I have determined that those components are performing satisfactorily, I will do as Marv Spector instructed me 40 years ago: pull and toss the Delco like a hand grenade!

In the meantime, I instructed the owner to order up a set of defroster hoses and cowl drain tubes, as all are AWOL and, with the front heater still out, it’s just more of a ‘unique opportunity.’🤣

Just a quick update on parts ordering — with Christmas only 4 days away, I’m basically checking the tracking links like a kid waiting for Santa.

Most of the goodies are officially en route from the North Pole and should be arriving soon. However… slight elf mix-up on the cowl vent drain tubes. Turns out the original elf only had half a set, so those are now being handled by a different elf who does have the complete pair.

So everything is coming together — just arriving via a couple different sleighs 🛷😄

Big thanks again!!!! More updates once the boxes start landing!

While the fuel system is offline, we decided to do a reset on the filter situation as well. Truck came to the customer with a simple, inline filter like those found on the FJ60. Readily available in the aftermarket, I consider it to be adequate for most situations.

Nonetheless, the customer was aware of the uber-cool factory glass bowl filters, and the battery support had the two holes for the hanger. So I pulled a factory hanger out of the stash, rinsed the dirt off the factory paint and installed it. Disassembled a new filter assembly, replaced the inlet with an angled fitting more appropriate to the delivery hose, replaced the outlet with a barb and hung it. Nothing exciting, just a clean reset.

The actual surprise of the day was going under the truck to hook up the new fuel line and seeing how badly distorted the brand new bushings on the brand new lift kit are! I just got done posting last week in someone else’s thread that this is not something that I’m used to seeing anymore. And it’s especially surprising considering how highly regarded this particular lift kit is.

I would have hoped that the shop that installed these would have questioned the poor fitment and not just forced the springs into place.☹️

Same on all four corners.🤦🏻

Huge thanks for installing the uber-cool glass bowl fuel filter on my FJ40 🔥

Awesome detail, it adds both function and period-correct cool factor. Watching clean fuel flow through that glass never gets old.

Really appreciate the care, craftsmanship, and thoughtfulness you bring to every little part of this build. This is exactly why I trust you with the truck.

Thanks again — absolutely loving it.

@65swb45 great detailing on this “reset”…how much further will this be going? This truck has to be riding so much better than day one

I would pull that bolt and inspect the bushing that's in there. It may be too short. Too late now, the bushings are squished, but would be good to know what's up there. Might open up pandora's box though.

I’m not exactly sure. I released the truck to the customer last week so he could get a new exhaust welded up with the header. Then it’s supposed to come back for final carb adjustments. Then I will swap in the Denso distributor.

The factory steering box may be up for service after that.🤷🏻‍♂️
