Looks like a good crew! Any problems, lining up the body mounts?

Great Crew! Lining up the mounts was pretty straight-forward. Nice thing about putting it on with people is making minor moves to get them to line up. This was a lot easier than using a lift.

One pic of the truck on frame, and a teaser pic (all that front body work will be coming right back off, but Pighead made me do it)

Progress is slow, but it is progress. I managed to duck more layoffs, and keep my job, but have had 3 schedule changes in the last month! Argh. I did get a breather last weekend, and managed to move the Moviestar 11 feet straight sideways, with my 5 year old son helping me. (difficult, not advisable, but possible) and hung the doors. (not perfectly gapped, but close) Also, my 5 year old son was the ratchet man on the job!

Why move a landcruiser sideways? Had to make room....the MG is nearly done with paint, and will be returning to suck more time away from the Moviestar....:bang:

Doors!

trans tunnel was almost perfect for the fj60 topcover. thanks for the trade jason. going to weld in a patch on the bottom to close up the opening a bit...doesn't have to look nice since it will be under a floormat ;)

sooooooooo, updates?

not so much on the Moviestar. The other project, the MG, got painted, and I have been putting what little time I have into putting that together. Although, once it is gone, it frees up a lot of space, and time.

I was playing around with some resins and composites, thinking about making a mold of the rear corners, then seeing if I can use them as a dolly to bang out new steel. Or, a two sided mold, and rig it to a shop press, and stamp some patch panels.....

Coming back in a month to shoot while I help Jason finish getting my piggie ready for paint. Wiil stay for a week. I owe you guys more info on the doc so please stay tuned.

I'm so excited to see my pig and to get involved with the actual work instead of just filming it! I can't wait!!

A little lead time and I'd be in...especially since the Moviestar and the Frankencruiser share parts.

Do you have your travel dates booked yet?

YES! Spoke with Jason today and we are GO. I will be arriving at his place in Severance around 1-2pm next Sat the 31st and leaving late the following Thursday the 5th. I don't know how this ended up happening during Memorial Day weekend again, but it has.

Jason and I will be working away on my truck all week with one goal and one goal only: To get her ready for paint.

Of course he is the master craftsman, with me helping him to the best of my capacity. Which means stuff like sanding and cleaning and whatever simple mindless jobs he can think of. Besides shooting this segment of the documentary, I hope to learn as much as I can about my pig.

So Ige, TJ, Pighead, Jim or anybody - just let me know if you can come and hang out for a bit. I know it is a busy three days for everyone but it would be really great to get together again!

You can even call me grasshoppa (said with a Chinese accent )

Thanks TJ
(For some reason I thought it was always the last weekend in May)

So YES, the fun starts Saturday the 31st and now I am so happy to know that is NOT Memorial Day weekend!

Sunday would be perfect!

Damn! Moving my son from Colorado Springs back to GJ on the 31st and 1st, then flying to DC on the 2nd for four days, returning on the 5th. The Pig gods are apparently screwing with me again! Or protecting me from having to compare my three-year old restomod with Jason's work and Pablo's fresh job.
Having our Pigs compare shared parts will apparently have to wait. Be kind to those door and cargo panels I wish I'd kept. And know that the chassis and SBC drive train from the parts Pig that donated roof and rear corners to the Moviestar has proven to be a great one.
I remember the conversation this way:
Jim..."One of us should take your parts Pig and my parts Pig and make a hell of a Land Cruiser."
Jason..."This is the second one I've done and I never want to see another one again." Understandable at that stage, which was the day I helped move the freshly sandblasted hunk of metallic swiss cheese into his garage.
I got the phone call a few weeks later and, in the middle of a snowstorm, hauled the carcass back to Grand Junction after the exchange of some cash and a 30-pack of PBR. My wife was so thrilled when I fired it up (no exhaust) and drove if off the trailer and into our garage about 1030 that night. She's recovered nicely now that she knows I'm always anxious to head out and fulfill the promise of at least 10 nights a year sleeping on the ground.
Maybe you can drive the Moviestar back through GJ and visit the Book Cliff Cruisers.
