lol you guys are bad... there is no way a stretched 40 will haul and tow like this thing does.. Besides the motor that is in this thing would break a 40 real bad...

Update sorry for taking time off life and 3 kids got in the way,

Plans changed a little , got a really rusty even by rustytlc's standards fj45 cab, so here we go,

Ok got about 3 hrs today, a little sand blasting and cutting. Made a piece to repair drivers side and support on the back of the cab, will weld it all in tomorrow.

Where I started
Then brace for what was rusted behind it and patch cutout. ,

Clogged tip? Is your sand wet?

clogged tip, got some crud in with the sand, cleaned out the tank and basted for another hour last night. got the drivers side mostly done, need to go get more sand, now if the wind would just stop blowing for an hour I could weld some more..

BTW I learned that 16ga sheet metal and a body shrinking hammer don't really work to well, trying to fit the patch I needed to shrink a place in the bend. hammered and dolly like normal nothing happens.. so its torch and pin gun. looks like I will get some practice hammer welding,

Get some flux core and quit being a sissy w/ that gas set up!! :)

Got 2hrs today, sand blasted some more and took a torch to the body trying to remove some of the dents in the floor and rockers.

Used flux core once, back 10 years ago with my little hobat 110, it works but the welds look like s&!- bi mix is worth the money, just need to get some .023 wire, the .030 works but have to go slow.

Did figure out how to use the shrinking hammer and the 16ga this thing was made of, rosebud tip heat it up then hammer and dollie it. Works great had some dents in the pass floor with two creases they are now gone and flat.

Tomorrow I plan on bracing the tub and pulling the doors, they have been there since 1965 so we will see, all the bolts so far have come out. Had to work several back and forth but haven't had to drill and tap yet, hopefully will have it on its back tomorrow where I can sand blast the bottom.

Body work...ewwwww.

What wheelbase are you shooting for now that you are building a 45 cab/truck?

As always, if you need any help, criticism, ideas on spending your money, an efficency reduction force, or anything like that, let us know...we are here to help. :flipoff2:

Looking forward to the progress.

Jack

Thanks for the support, Jack..... If you bring Dr Pepper you Are welcome to come help anytime..

Got the doors and hinges off today, also welded in some door braces.

Next need to finish sandblasting everything and then build a Dollie for the tub to get it in the shop. Welding outside in Nevada sucks, there is always a breeze at my house..

106" on the wheelbase same as fj45 shortbed at 106"'but for 35's it should be just about right.

Need to find a rusty fj40 to help build the bed from, as fj45 beds are unobtainum, and I would hate to cut up a stock fi45 bed for this. I will take some more pix after Easter weekend.

You are a glutton for punishment! Never thought that tub would come back to life! I know someone who might have a rusty 40 tub soon!:D

Oh BTW I hate people who think bondo is for fixing dents.. Passenger side was smashed on the door sill and some bondo artist thought 1/4 inch was ok 1 hr of pin gun, body hammer and torch later it's straight.. The hidden wonders of working on something that's older than I am...
