Funny I was just checking another thread that linked back to this one 2UZ Powered 80... - Rising Sun Member Forums

Wagoneer5 I gotta tell ya. I'll be the first to tell you, this certainly is no race truck. This is the slowest vech I own by a decent margin, it just doesnt feel like a 6000lb tank anymore.

The last FJ I owned had 333k miles on it, sounded like a deisel, got 8mpg and couldnt get out of its own way going downhill in a hurricane.

Look, if you're not happy with it, just give it to me and save me the 5 months of work? :flipoff2:

What're you planning on the dash, aside from the stereo to play them bling-a-blingin sultry tunes on?

Wow - what a great finish to a detailed thread. Sounds great and that rig can really move down the road!

:cheers::clap:

Man if you guys thought this thread was done...

This is more of a log/update thread to the build. Im about 40% done. More updates coming. Just a bunch of some ones coming as I get the bugs worked out.

Just curious: since you've just "completed" this project (for the most part), how long would it take you to do another one? (I'm not asking if you'd convert one for me. I'm just curious how much time you think would be saved if you were to do another one...........)

That was my thoughts on my 2uz in my 45. It should be faster than it is with all that sound.

The variables would be the t-case/trans combos. But that aside if everything else was identical...
The wiring took a while, so if my notes were accurate and I could pull my PNP harness out, to double check things...

I think I could do another, just as detailed if not more so, in 75% of the time. The limits are my time. If I did this all day every day, one month probably. Perhaps less.

nice video. it looks to me like it gets up and goes.

is that an open exhaust i saw? going to add a muffler or go outlaw?

I got the oil pressure gauge hooked up now. The factory FJ gauge has a stand alone harness on the pass inner apron. EY-1 is the triangle connector.

These two clips go on the front of the FJ pressure sender. The one that came on the tundra motor had a different connector, and it didnt read pressure the same so the gauge wasnt working properly.

Now its all good. I would like to know what the actual pressure is vs the needle movement but something is better than nothing right now.

EDIT: Forgot to add this pic of the clips that I mentioned above.

i accidentily disconnected that harness with my foot when i did the hg on my 80. scared the crap out of me when i started the truck and had no oil pressure and it sounded like hell (i was way off on the timing)

Just going off the start of this thread is it safe to say that this is a 4-5 month project? Kinda want to get an idea before i tackle something like this.

I started on two days after thanksgiving 09' but just ripping the rig apart. Then I purchased the tundra and worked on that for a while.
I took extra time to clean and prep all the parts on the motor and rebuild/rewire things. I only put in an hour or two each week night.
Then I didnt work on it for a short period of two weeks when I had surgery so... it could be done in a lot less.

LS400 is a front sump

SC400 is a mid sump.

I don't remember which one I used, but 92-98 for either. I did have to modify the pan a little to fit, and a hard hit could still possibly hit it.

I will still get you that cruise setup later, I haven't forgot

I would say this could be done in stages. To get a driving rig, you could do it pretty quick, but it is all the little stuff that can keep going and going and going.

I started mine in March 09. It was running and drivable by July 09. I worked on it 10-15 hours a week after that until January 2010, but not all that was just for the motor swap, and some time was wasted due to the my transmission issue trying to use the stock FJ80 trans.

Realistically to do a good quality swap and you know what you are doing, plan on no less than 300 hours. One of my first swaps (7m in a 4runner) only took 48 hours, but it was completely thrown together. I want to build a GTM sometime in the near future. From what I read about that, it is no less than 1000 hours.

The time it takes is based on your ability, and the type of quality you want. QUALITY= TIMEx2. It will almost always take twice as long as you think.
