I have to say that I wouldn't need the power that often (just like most of my other mods) but you do run into circumstances where the only thing that can get you thru is momentum and wheel speed.

I guess the best way to describe the way I use my rig would be the same way as you describe yours. A buggy would be nice, but I hate to sacrifice the comfort of the 60, on the trail.

OK... you guys are way more hardcore then me, I'll shut up now

getting grumpy lately jason???

lol

Donno, I like the power my 60 has now. But, I wish I had more :D

The ability to crawl with gears or to spin the motor when I want to is a greatg combination..

I'm still gonna do the nitrous shot for pismo :D

I envision Bob going flying up the face of a dune just like Napoleans grandma :D

Video of this would be great.

You still driving Bob with no a/c? If so you're more hardcore than ALL of us!

I found my oil leaks, looks like the pan gasket I got does not match the pan and the dipstick needs to be re-sealed. maybe I'll get around to fixing them this upcoming week.

yeppers, no AC yet...

mornings are not so bad, but driving home does get a bit toasty...

god I need to hit the junkyard for some parts...

getting grumpy lately jason???

I'm always grumpy, I just don't post alot :D

With more go pedal your gonna have a better chance of braking something(we all know that). The trails that I really enjoy are at a minimum of 3-4hrs to nearest napa. If you brake something in the middle of Dusy or Saline your looking closer 14hrs one way.

If was gonna go for high HP numbers, I'd want to do something like Gary did on his wagons. big HP without lossing alot of driveabilaty. but even then the guy that bought the 62 nuked the rear DC and spent at least a day trying to find a shop in Moab to build him another.

If I was you I'd swap the 302 for the 2f in your 40 and dump the 302 in it. think about this... what vehicle are gonna be out in the middle of no where in?

just my $ .005 I'll go back to lurking

Apply a little common sense and you can avoid breaking parts.

The end of the Rainbow :D

triple shifters, two piece front driveshaft, working on a front and rear bumper, and a motor that won't heat up for crap when the temp Drops... I can actually touch the radiator with my hand for as longa s I want if the temp is under 60*.. The heater in the car was useless...

I need a higher temp thermostat..

LOOKIN GOOD MACE ...rainbow and all :hillbilly: lets get more wheelin pics ... I need to get my 82 outa moth balls :meh:

I finaly got around to fixing the heating issue. Brought on by the freaking cold weather out here in Vegas...

Apparently, some thermostats have a "lock open" mode if the car overheats.
I siezed the Air pump and pulled the belt off in order to drive to the closest Autozone. And in the process overheated it a bit. There does not seem to be any damage to the motor (it was for a very short period of time) but that silly little situation caused the Thermostat to lock in the open position. So I was basicaly running without a Tstat at all..

Never even knew they did that...

I had my OEM thermostat fail in the open position but it never overheated. I have never heard of an overheat and "lock open" thermostat either. Does this info come from a reliable source or the parts counter guy?

Keep in mind that my issue was the truck not warming up, not overheating caused by the thermostat staying open..

A. I was holding it in my hand and wondering why the little tabs looked like they were holding it open..

B. 10 seconds on google and.. :: Crucial Racing Systems - The parts you need for the performance you want
SAFETY: Under normal conditions, the Coolsafe Thermostat will operate like any other thermostat. But, unlike standard thermostats, our Coolsafe thermostat automatically locks into an open position should an overheating or failure condition occur, protecting the engine from serious damage. Any normal thermostat will lock in the closed position; a sure way to serious engine failure! Although a thermostat cannot completely prevent cooling system failure, it can greatly improve operating reliability in emergency situations. It is a wonderful safety feature for your Subaru, and the added performance is a welcome plus.
