update?? The tranny started to puke fluid out of it last wed night.

Looks like the C6 is coming out for an AOD.

:(

I think I installed the wrong flexplate.. If you get the wrong one, it alters how far the TC enters the pump and either bottoms it out or does not engage fully. And apparently, That eats up the pump pretty fast.

C6's came behind big blocks and are stupid strong tranny's. The AOD is a step backwards in strength, however I don't feel I really need the strength of the C6 and I REALLY want a lockup torque converter and an overdrive to try to get a bit more mileage out of Bob.. Plus the C6 eats a stupid amount of power (~60 hp at least). So with a reasonably built AOD I should have better mileage and more power getting to the ground.

I have been itching to replace the C6 since I put it in and hit 3K at 65 on 35's and 4.11 gears.. I built this as a driveing truck, not a crawler. If it was a crawler and I was going to be putting it in stupid places all the time, I would stick to the C6..

One cool thing, the mounts for an AOD and C6 are almost in the exact same spots.. So it is almost a bolt up affair... Or so I am told :D

Ford's non electronic controled OD auto tranny like Dan said.

It had some problems out of the gate (as did the 700R4) but the aftermarket has stepped up and taken care of things.. A good chunk of the issues have derrived from not having the TV cable adjusted properly..

Lovin the AOD.

I went from 3K rpm at 65 mph to 1900 at 65 mph.. The truck is now MUCH quieter while driving and appears to be getting slightly better mileage (13 maybe??)

yep, lock up torque converter and an overdrive is niiiicccceeee...

no paint yet. I need to get on that one of these days lol

Do you have enough power to pull a grade at 65mph and 1900rpm?

Depends on the grade.. I can always down shift out of overdrive too ;)

Just wondering. It's annoying to me to have an auto tranny shift down on a slight grade when I have the cruise control on. I guess you don't have to worry about having the cruise control on, though do you? :)

lol

Not yet, but I do want the cruise ability :D

Honestly it pulls pretty well even at 1900 rpm. But if I give it any gas, it downshifts..

I have one, but there is no way I would use it for a cruiser control..

I'd rather get one of the aftermarket cruise controls out there. They actually work pretty well..

You could always throw in some lower gears and get your cruising rpm around 2500...

That may happen at a later date, as it stands, 75 mph is about 2200 or so and I am enjoying it.
