Here's the ad - 1976 Original F2 4.2L Toyota Land Cruiser SUV

emailed poster, said he was helping his sister sell it. Emailed his sister, asking for more questions.

Here is the first reply -

Hello and thank you for your email. I'm Tania, glad to see you are interested in my 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser. The body is in very good original condition. Only 48951 miles.
The title is clear and has my name printed as owner. This truck does not burn or leak a drop of oil. Here you have the VIN # 1976FJ40.
The price is $9,300 I know the price is way under market's value, I have tried to sell it at a higher price but we are in a bit of a rush since my husband got a new job and signed a contract for 2 years in Edmonton, Canada. He is already there and we will leave in a week. We don't have the conditions to keep it there and we need the money in this period of transition so I am trying to sell this as soon as possible. If you have any questions or need any info or photos please ask.
48951 original miles on the stock Inline 6 cylinder, 4.2L, 2F engine and 4 speed transmission. Meticulously maintained with lots of documented service records.
Comes with a complete cover and storage bag
Interior is in excellent condition. Original seats (front and back) have no rips or tears in them. Rear seats still have the factory straps! All 4 seats have the original working seat belts. The headliner and visors are excellent (no rips or tears) and are original
Brand new 31 X 10.50 BF Goodrich Mud Terrain (KM2's) T/A Radial tires (including the spare) with less than 10 miles on them. Original wheels and hubcaps (including the spare) in excellent condition and still have their original paint on them.

Thank you

Then my reply
Hi,
Do you have picture of the title? What is the VIN number again? You accidentally just typed 1976 FJ40?
Also, do you have phone number that I could call to discuss with you?
I have someone in Salt Lake City that could even come by and take a look.

"Tania's" reply - Sorry,the vin # is FJ40217051

I again ask for a phone number, pics of the titie and door tag.

Her latest reply:

As I told you in my first email, we will leave in a week to Edmonton, Canada, where my husband got a new job. Because of the short time that I have left and so many things to deal with concerning our departure I have signed a contract with eBay to take care of the selling on my behalf. The Toyota is already at the shipping company in Sioux City, IA sealed and ready for the shipping.
The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 7-9 days, depending on the exact location. You will have 5 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don't like about it you can send it back at my expense.
If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, I can ask eBay to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it. eBay will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the confirmation that you need to complete this deal and you will also have proof that I am covered by them and a legitimate seller. If you would like to receive the email from eBay with all the transaction information please reply with your full name, shipping address and phone # and they will contact you right away.

Thank you

I supposed it could be legit. you know, all pristine, low-mileage FJ40s stored in shipping containers for sale on ebay for under $10k are legit.
With less than 50,000 miles.

Curious to know what others would experience if they inquired. Buyer Beware!

Or - Good luck to the new OWNER @cruiserboy14 ?

RUN!
This scam format is typical.

Yep. More just giving everybody a heads up and posting the VIN they shared so it would show up in a search if somebody else was hoping for a too-good-to-be-true to be true

I recently had one like this. it was yellow looked almost the same exact configuration. said he was working on an oil rig and wouldn't need it, it was in a shipping facility ready to go anywhere in the us on his dime (or his companies... don't remember exactly). he just gave me a an email no number to the shippers. I looked up said shippers in "Seattle" they where a marine shipping company from Glasgow, and the address was a vacant lot, then I google searched and found the vehicle in Boston at auction.... homework kids..

Any Craigslist ad with 1-3 fuzzy pics, no phone #, to good to be real price, and inconsistent info has a 99.9999% chance of being a scam. I have yet to see a legit one CL is full of scams like this.

Saw it on a few CL sites, none that were close geographically.

F' with her. You can find a sample Western Union confirmation number on google. Send her on a couple goose chases down there. They love that.

Find two W. U. offices and once she comes back and says she didn't get the money from the first one, let her know that you made a mistake and send her to the further one. :)

If you really want to fix the scammers, I always refer to the experts:
419 Eater - The largest scambaiting community on the planet!
419 is the international statute against fraud, hence the name. These guys make it a sport to inconvenience the scammers to the max, and they are really good at it. This site gives hours of entertaining reading. One example is where they told the Nigerian scammers that the church was going to donate free computers, but insisted in sending two pallets of "computers" next day air Fedx COLLECT. When it arrived in Lagos it turned out to be 4 dead washing machines! That collect freight charge hurt for sure!

SCAM ALERT Roger Sauter Deepwater Drilling Engineer BSChE is trying to sell a 1975 Toyota Fj55 in very nice condition for $8500 shipping and escrow fees included. Google his name.....,he tried to do something similar trying to sell a 1976 Ford Mustang....... same story.... just different car
