I have two 100's and one 200, but don't have an 80 and been looking at a few. Have another one to look at this weekend (LX450), any advice on areas to look at or items to look for in particular. I know pesky heater hose and knuckles, but wanted to see what else. I have researched this a lot, but want to make sure I don't miss anything important.

Background on the LX450 I am looking at this weekend:
-279k miles
-Heads gasket job including machining the heads and servicing everything on the top end in the process
-No rust
-Minor oil leak at rear seal and oil pan
-Exhaust leak (tick) but not sure where
-EGR light comes on when cold sometimes
-Front Seat Gears need replacement (have new parts)
-Clean overall inside and out

If that's all the known issues, then your good. Rear main seal and oil pan is typical not a pressing concern unless leaking puddles of oil.
The HG with receipt of work is the selling point. Everything else is baseline. Look at the belts, hoses and condition of radiator and the heater "T" valve. Hear any clicking during turning for signs of worn birf. See how it excelerates, does it shutter or Sluggish.......does it drive straight. Look under he carriage for obvious rust. Check at the steering box for hairline cracks. Mainly the maintenance history records are all I need and most likely rubber bushings will need attention.

Make sure to check both the door sticker and the actual axles if it is "locked", the dial on the dash does not guarantee anything. I know you said rust free but in addition to checking the underside, look around the roof rack feet. These trucks will rust there IMO due to poor prep/finish work when the rack was installed. I would also suggest finding an off pavement area to go through the 4wd system (all modes).

I also like OTRAMM's thread for pre-purchase: 80 Series prepurchase inspection pointers - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/80-series-prepurchase-inspection-pointers.1065348/

I'd stay away from anything that came from north of the state line. There are too many rust free trucks around here to screw around with cancer ridden stuff. Just my 2¢.

Yes, this is a NC and SC only truck. Currently in SC

In that case, if it runs, it's worth buying.
