Timely revival of this topic, my 97 model PS reservoir started puking fluid out from the cap a couple of days ago due to a combination of a hardened gasket along with the reservoir being overfilled

Time for a pump rebuild when I get home.
 
Excellent tutorial, followed it exactly and worked out well.

Observation: the thickness of your rubber piece is not super important as the cap itself does not do any clamping. It's the shiny metal thing that captures the mouth of the reservoir for a tight fit. So, if your replacement piece thicker than 1/8", it won't kill you.

Tip: if you warm up the plastic tip with a heat gun, before you squeeze with a pair of pliers, it might come off easier for you.
