Getting rack & pinion replaced on the '05 Land Cruiser tomorrow. Any appreciable reason to go with Mobil1 Synthetic ATF ($19/qt. from Walmart) instead of the Toyota ATF ($8.50/qt. from dealer)?

TIA

Several trusted members here recommend Mobil1 Synth ATF so that's good enough for me. It's all I've used for the last ten years.

That being said you'll be fine either way.

I have been using valvoline maxlife synthetic for the last 15 years or so. Great stuff and it's about $25/gallon on amazon. Runs cooler and has had less cavitation issues when hot than other atf or PS fluid I have used.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the above options. I'll second Valvoline Maxlife. Been running it in all my trucks, no issues and it's done a great job cleaning up previously neglected PS systems. Also like that it's cheap enough I just empty the reservoir and refill with fresh fluid each oil change. Keeps the fluid fresh.
