So -- how much interest is there in taking up an offer like this??????

"If you have between 10-20 people who would like to take the course we can try to coordinate something with our person who does the course. If your slightly under ten we have a couple of others who are waiting till we get the required amount. The cost would still have to be determined, but it wouldn't be that great. It's usually a weekend course (Thursday & Friday night, all day Saturday, write the test on Sunday.)"

Course would be in the Surrey/Delta area -- to be determined.

I'm always interested in something like this, but as a shiftworker...rotating through weekends...my dates available are limited. Do you have dates anticipated yet?

Not yet. I'm first trying to see if there's enough interest to warrant attempting to schedule the course. I'd expect it'll probably be September/October(ish)....everyone is always busy over the summer and it seems like the chaos factor winds down (a bit) by the fall.

Not that you need to consider this at all, as whatever works for a group needs to be taken into account when setting the course dates...but the only ones would work for me in all Sept/Oct are Sept 13, 14, 15, 16...and even then I would have to find a replacement on the 13th night. Nov 8, 9, 10 and 11 are the next ones, and that's it till 2008. If not, no worries at all. Probably end up going Norms route and self study on my schedule.

Ah. But you see, by specifying some dates you have driven a stake into the ground by which everyone else must live! If it happens it'll either be Sept 13/14/15/16 or Nov 8/9/10/11! How's that?

count me in i just scrapped my 4 in 4 shift job for mon to fri way less pressure and less money too

Not to rain GB's parade, but I'd like to be licenced by/during summer.
I've been studying, I'll probably go Norm's route and just write it in July.
How hard can it be... a rock and roller got it:D

Hey GG...I ain't got no parade...

But I might jump on Norms, seeing as you are too...

hehe...

Just willing to leap onto something if someone else is going to do the organizing.

Then, in typical fashion something critical will come up, and I won't be able to make it anyway :D

I have a contact for someone in Surrey/Delta who can (and has been volunteered to!) administer the exam for you -- hours will likely be much more flexible than dealing with it at Industry Canada. Let me know if you decide to go this route.

Alternatively, the list of approved examiners is publicly available from industry canada -- email one of them who's closest to you and they can administer the exam.

There's a guy you can contact through Com-West (radio store) in Vancouver that is a licenced examiner and he is VERY accomodating with time to write. I did mine this past spring on a self study and scored 89% which got me a Basic+ licence (access to all ham bands). His only request is that you have studied enough to pass. He doesn't want folks wasting his time on a lark. www.rac.ca has an online exam generator that you can use but there are errors in it so be sure you have your book handy as well to double check.

I would be interested, and as a semi retired person any dates are fine with me.

Ok -- Greg_B's going to call me a liar for going back on my word, but it's starting to look like this course could be on the 19/20/21/22nd of July. How does that date work? Cost is still tbd......but it's not going to be much.

For those that can't make these dates, I think we may be able to work out a separate flexible testing session if you self study.

Stop. Rewind. I just received a note from Don -- he has just been informed that he had forgotten a "prior commitment". In the interest of preserving his marriage this is being rescheduled -- Sorry for the confusion, but the NEW DATES ARE: July 12/13/14/15.
