Lots of info on this on the web. I can find this information for my radio easily. Does anyone know if these modifications would be permitted for those with an "Advanced" license? I'm not asking about the legality of using it in the modified state, just the legalities of doing the mods and having a modded radio?

Most of the mods have you going out side of the amateur bands and is not permitted with or with the Advanced qualifications. Legaly you have to own a radio that is licenced on those bands to use them.

I guess I do remember a little bit of stuff from the course

For those installing a ham in a '60 with a remote head as I did, a 5"x7" speaker fits perfectly in the dash speaker location above the glove box.

I have my ham mounted remotely in the rear of the truck and it was not possible to hear the speaker in the radio unless the truck was stopped. I expect it should be much better now with a remote speaker (it should make finding the radio for thieves a little harder too since it won't be making any noise).
