Need to find seals and boots.

seals:

CR 23451 (STEFA, BB - dims:60x85x8), upper portal/axle tube oil seal
CR 19687 (STEFA, BB - dims:50x90x10), inner hub grease/oil seal

STEFA, BY 80x92x28 (pn#32896 1) - outer hub grease seal --
*this is the impossible to find seal.

seals, you say

when I was trying to find unobtainium - a seal for my AR15 transmission to the Dana 300, this is where I looked. It lists in the exact manner you described it. I also have a link to a custom seal manufacturer, somewhere, so if that above link fails....

the second step is, after finding the number, is either go to NAPA and cross reference the number or look on Amazon with the number (which is what I did, successfully)

there are also a vast number of people on Expedition Forum who are C303 literate
Volvo C304 (4x4) Restore and fitout - Expedition Portal

Pirate is more a US deal, going onto international sites like Expo (and, of course, MUD) would probably net you better results.

Well, here is the newest dream conversion...

This project just got some momentum. Still will be a while to be front and center, but gaining momentum on parts gathering. Got a great deal on some Pit Bull 39" tires, so jumped on a set. Time to track down some rims now, but that is difficult I am finding.

Think I will go with some MRW rims. 17 x 9" rims. 8 x 8.75 pattern. 8 lugs!

Trackwidth = 60.6"
330 lbs for a front axle
286 lbs for a rear axle
8 on 8.75" lug pattern
standard 4 bolt driveshaft flange (Rover size)
Birfield front axle joint (Rover size)
Portal box reduction = 2.06:1
Portal box gears are straight cut
Vertical distance from axle midline to hub midline = 5"
Vaccuum operated locker front/rear, easily converted to cable.
3" square tube stamped steel housing with removable 3rd member

Fronts are pass. drop, can be flipped to make d-side with few mods.
Rear 306 axle is centered, 303 axle is offset 2".

Ground clearance with standard tires(36")/rims(16") = Volvo C-series, 15.5"

factory ratios:

9x33 = 3.666666 (x 2.06 = 7.553333:1)
9x31 = 3.444444 (x 2.06 = 7.095555:1)
11x32 = 2.90909 (x 2.06 = 5.992727:1)

axle specs:

Pinion gear 11 teeth, ring gear 32 teeth.
Portal drive gear 16 teeth, driven gear 33 teeth.
Drive gear 1.5 wide, driven gear 1.4 wide.
Drive axle major diameter 1.16 miner 1.06
Driven axle major diameter 1.745 minor 1.555
27 spline inner axle shafts
26 degree turning angle

Brakes:

11" drum brakes (Rover 109 drum can be turned & drilled to fit: 576974)
Part number front shoes RTC3424 (full set for complete front axle)
Part number rear shoes STC2797 (full set for complete front axle)
Part number wheel cylinder rear right 243296
Part number wheel cylinder rear left 243297
Wilwood sells a disc brake conversion (but it's not cheap)

Portal box bearings:

Small Bearing = TIMKEN JLM104948
Small Race = TIMKEN - JLM104910
Large Bearing = NTN 4T-JLM508748
Large Race = NTN 4T-JLM508710
Inner Oil Seal = STEFA CB 60X85X8
Retaining Nut = V1523031 MUTTER AXEL C3 17B73 (Available at Altyco Parts)

Axle “cover” 1563012-2 (front axle CV boots) can be found at Volvo USA.

=========

I have a pair of these for many reasons:

light weight (compared to 600lbs+ stock Mogs)
narrow width (mogs are around 75" wide) so no narrowing costs
no torque tube (even after removal the pinion is still 13" long on Mogs IIRC)
driveshaft bolts right up
flipable without retubing the axle (read $$$$)

**MRW Has Closed And Is Now Out of Business**

oops, waited too long.... anyone know a good place to get rims?

Volvo c303 disc brakes? there is a video where a guy is talking about machining down the 303 hubs for other patterns. very interesting approach.

stazworks for custom wheels?

Thanks for the Stazworks linkup. I called him yesterday. Seemed like an awesome guy. Have not looked at prices yet, but sounds like the way to go.

I have been reading up for last year on several conversions to disc. all of the ones that I found to purchase are out of my relm of reasonable, especially shipped from Europe.

I do like the conversions that use Toyota parts; however, they are hilux parts. When I was looking at this, it was different part numbers from our mini trucks, so importing was pricy too.

here is the thread I have been watching and posting. Notice I moved on from the 2F ENGINE.

Volvo c303 on Defender

Anyway, I talked to several folks that drove C303's and they all said they had plenty of brake in those big drums. Only issue that I see is putting enough master cylinder there to operate them.

Any pictures of these portals on your 80?

Portals are still in the barn. Slated for 2017 project. Still accumulating parts.

@cjmoon has volunteered to help with the rear axle design. 4wheel underground is thinking that a 2 1/2 lift will not work with their setup, so plan is to keep the front stockish.

Boring! MOre pictures please!

Here you go. I got this for you @cruisedeisel !

stockish front end ya right. you have to remember i'm building this for mine as well i like low. i dropped my old rig 4 inched going from 37-40's

front is no issue 3 link no issue, I'm just started taking measurements on the rear tonight. the wish bore rear has me intrigued longer lowers, centered always with some support really give some benefits still playing with numbers. The rear under lift conditions really starts moving around in a negative way. the other option I'm looking at is off set rear wishbone so the stock fuel tank can be utilized with a longer upper link. based on the low and slow style we represent could be very fruitful.

just need to get me engine back together. about ready to pull the trigger needing internal pistons and rods leading to 2k in other parts to get the cummins up to 50psi safe with twins...

Uh, i must have missed something in your thread, you have your engine on the stand again?
