Going to call this project done (well almost):

The synthetic rope is from Tuff Stuff 4x4. 92' of 1/2". I think the stock 8274 drum could possibly hold 100' of 1/2", but that would be the limit as far as I am concerned. And the 1/2" rope is a snug fit through the hole in the drum.

The attached hook is total overkill for what I intend to use the winch for:

y4m4N3QDPgIgG0hxJ4MH4jshjWn7sIwYSAYnNM9i1fr8H4Xpmjs6LrEI_tEldUYUtMjZ4fd708ck0D2bhHBCNCoao8Ud2Bpl2loqOwws7cQNMb56HYungF3rWqhQ1zAk_3-e58ykM63QmzJGzduawrkppabhbCcM9bDS4Ora886iK7iuh8zFSD-jdpcb1eGO1QsFuxu39J9IkO2g8T3V5NNSA

I had to cut off the crimped on fitting that was on the rope (designed to mount with a bolt to the side of the drum), peel back a bit of the protective cover (looked like heat shrink tubing), and then knot the end. I used some heavy duty, adhesive shrink tubing to prevent the end from unraveling. Inserted through the hole and simply knotted. 1/2" rope makes a big knot....

Presently, the rope is only 'hand' tight on the drum, so I need to mount this up and do a pull to properly spool the rope.

Thanks to all those who commented and those who have posted 8274 re-build threads!

Do you hate your back? Lol
Is the 8274 the best winch? Yes.
Is the 8274 the best choice for a multi-mount winch? Maybe not.

...ask me how i know. Lol

Ha-looks great, but my back was hurting just reading your post.

But good info on the 1/2 inch. I did not realize that would fit.

Yep, this is a heavy SOB. It would have been heavier with the roller fairlead and steel wire rope. I don't think I'll attempt to carry it up the stairs from the basement by myself...

100' would be the max for 1/2", IMO. Looks like decent synthetic rope. Only time will tell if it is any good.

Yowza......you know that baby is a heavy weight! Might as well put some wheels on it. ;)

I know my 8274 (with steel cable) is heavy just by itself.

Well, I've got you to blame. If I hadn't stumbled upon your rebuild thread a couple years back, I wouldn't have gotten the idea to tackle this project. And like most 'projects' I take on, I tend to go 'all in' on it. Thanks! (I think....)

It definitely will take a couple guys to move this around. Good thing the carrier has a couple of stout handles.

Man i think you nailed it! Nice work.
