Not sure if anyone has seen these, but I thought they were pretty cool looking. I sent them an email to get an idea of pricing.

I have wanted to do something like this on mine for some time.

Any of the South African guys on here heard or seen of these?

Look under the Landcruiser VX tab.

GRTravelTops - Home

Just the top, not sure what all the other rack type stuff is.

They look cool until you have to drive around town all the time with a 3 foot cube on your roof. Also acts like a sail in the wind. If you just use it for camping trips and remove it, than it can't be beat.

It looks like it adds maybe 8" tops, to the roof of the landcruiser.

Also, it does not look "removable".

Well I am not sure but I have seen others that fold up pretty tall. A little too much, not saying I wouldn't get one if I would make good use of it.

I'd miss my sunroof for a total of four seconds. that looks very cool, goes on the "when I start playing the lottery and then win" list I suppose...

Did you actually look at the link provided in post #1?

I have seen this product. It is very well made.Just keep in mind it is for more the tourer and not the hard core offroader. It can make the truck top heavy. The height of the truck is not razed much at all. They are used alot with the guys that travel from Cape Town to Egypt

No price list. Any idea what they cost (importation not withstanding)
Says they fit any truck and I see where they have one set up at a campsite out of the truck on legs. kewl

We have a company in Australia called Ironman 4x4 who are releasing a roof tent similar to these in the next few weeks, have a look at the link, it might be something that will be available over there,

That is very cool. I've been conceptualizing something like that myself using my Maggiolina RTT and cutting the bottom out of the tent to attach it permanently to the roof.

I like the space this design adds. Any idea on how storm worthy it is. Obviously the platform would catch a lot of wind. But what about the tent material itself handling driving rain and swirling guting wind?

That is a good looking tent, but I don't think they are the same.

With the GR top there is no going back, you cut a huge hole in the roof and permantly mount the new roof/tent onto your vehicle. That way when the top is open, you can stand up inside of your rig and make a mini RV kind of a thing with the ability to stay inside the vehicle for getting out of the weather, cooking or hanging out.

I never got an email back and one of the other guys that had emailed them, got a very curt response, so I don't think they want to bother with shipping to America. Maybe one of the guys with family down there that is working on this will be able to get something going.

At this point, don't get your hopes up.

I looked at this thread a while ago but never really scanned the photos on the GR website. Now that I have done, I must say I like the concept. With two young kids I really like the extra fold out bed on the opposite side. The slide in one is removable and some models are below the cab roofline when folded. I might have to make one for myself :hhmm:

My uncle has an indutrial sewing maching :hhmm::hhmm:

Ok, I finally got an email response.

The response I got was with price of R110,000.00. Now I am not sure what all that covers, but at the current rate of exchange that works out to about $14000.00 dollars.:frown:

I really hope that is a quote for an entire conversion, because that just kills that idea. I could understand $4000.00 ish for just the top because I can't imagine it being cheap to produce or that they sell that many, but $14k is a little steep, not matter how you slice it.

I await his response.

Zippity doo dah! Thats some coinage right there.

I also wonder how much room the tent takes up inside the truck, since it is about the same size as a RTT but has a lower exterior profile the bulk has to go some place.

OTOH you guys don't need a lot of head room do you?

I got a response and apparently that was for just the roof top w/ tent portion.

I wanted to get some more pictures, but getting any more information was kind of like pulling teeth, so I have no idea.

So what are you trying to say.:flipoff2:
