Good point to bring up. They do have limited lifespans and should be removed within a time window. Beyond that there's a very real likelihood that it will not come off nicely, potentially damaging the paint underneath. If the paint is not OEM and has been resprayed, it may very well peel off upon normal removal. Not saying not to wrap, but like eatSleepWoof says, food for thought.

Yeah that is something to think about. I don't really keep vehicles more than about 2 years... I've owned 26 in the last 18 years. Also, the brand of wrap I'm using is warrantied for 3 years and estimated to last 5-7 depending on whether it's on a horizontal or vertical surface so I most likely won't open the vehicle when it comes time to do something with the wrap. And since my buddy is a professional installer then the warranty will apply. He said that removal isn't an issue if it's done correctly and I am applying on the original paint so that shouldn't be an issue either.
I've pretty thoroughly researched and considered the potential issues and downsides and I think it's definitely got more upside than downside for me at this point. I just can't decide on color so thought I'd put up a poll... Because I want something that I like but also something that has broad appeal so that it doesn't hurt me when I go to sell it. If it can prevent a lot of paint damage and look cool then it's def going to be worth a few hundred bucks in materials to me.

With regards to not removing wrap before sale/trade-in... I can't speak for others, but I would never buy a wrapped vehicle purely because of the potential of unknown body problems underneath the wrap: scratches, bondo, rust, etc. That goes double for vehicles that cost as much as ours. Might slightly decrease your re-sale ability.

Why not install a clear bra over most of the vehicle? It'll give you the protection you desire, you don't need to stress about which colour to go with, and it'll likely increase value for potential future buyers.

Nah... I WANT to change the color and look of the vehicle. I also want to add some protection. I'm not stressing over the color... Just wanted some help in seeing what might be popular and appealing to other people. And I'm with you on not buying a vehicle with a wrap on it...I'd probably put it up for sale with the wrap on it and the first person that came with money could decide if they wanted me to remove it before the deal was finalized or leave it, easy peasy.
Thanks for the input.

If you're going to go through the trouble and expense of wrapping, do something badass. Why chose a plain drab color just to appear like it's a military vehicle. Do something awesome like Multicam black or M90 camouflage?

I like the satin tan and OD Green and those are very similar to stock Toyota colors. I actually really like Multicam black but that just is too "loud" for me... Maybe if it was a dedicated off road vehicle I could do camo but not on my DD. I'm really leaving towards the Tacoma Cement color right now.

My random thought here is...make it yours, rather than someone else’s vision. Have some fun and surprise everyone.

I was definitely influenced by trucks here as I chose some major components, but beyond that, it’s fun doing unique tweaks that make it YOURS.

In your case, you seem to be in a great position to do something unusual...and are clearly not locking at long term ownership with the buying/selling pattern you say is your tendency.

Maybe consider something OTHER than suggestions here & make it interesting...to you. If it doesn’t sell like that? -As you said...you’ll take it off.

Just be sure and get lots of photos of what it looks like pre-wrap so when you go to sell it in a couple years, buyers will know what’s under there.

Yeah I like what you're saying.... Kinda go out on a limb and do something 100% unique? The ONLY thing that sort of bothers me about that is being super noticeable to everyone in town from a mile away. I'm in a smallish city so it wouldn't take long for everyone to know who I was and I like my anonymity. (Hopefully that makes sense).

But either way... You make a good point. That was actually the other purpose of this thread. To give me some ideas that I could take and run with ... I'm definitely not a "creative" person so it helps to start with something and modify it rather than come up with my own original design.

Unique doesn’t have to mean flashy, or super distracting.

Maybe jump on google images and just search vinyl wraps under the image section. Forget whether it’s a 290 or not... You get all sorts of ideas to start from.

Cavalry blue for sure. Then make sure all chrome is blacked out. That would look amazing.

So basically this? I agree, that looks pretty slickkkk... I love the new (or reused) colors that Toyota has been using recently - the Sandstorm, Cement and this blue all look good to me... hence the indecisiveness... haha

What is the cost of this wrap? I always wondered what the price range was to wrap your car vs. paint

What is the cost of this wrap? I always wondered what the price range was to wrap your car vs. paint

I’m waiting to get mine scheduled. I was quoted under $3k to have it professionally done with 3M 1080 vinyl. My 200 is the midnight black metallic, and I don’t like black vehicles.

For me, this is worth it. For one, I am choosing a color I prefer. Two, I can prolong the life of the paint. And lastly, the vinyl wraps heal themselves to some extent from pinstriping whereas clear coat does not. I live in ABQ, so desert pin-striping is a fact of life.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a full body vinyl wrap on my 2013 black LC. But I'm really stuck on what color. I really like satin black but I also love the OD green that's on some of the Trail Teams editions of the FJ Cruiser. I'm doing this for both paint protection and to give it a cool look. What does everyone think on color? Please leave a comment if you've got a suggestion I didn't list in the poll. Thanks!
Cement gray.

Desert digital camo

I was quoted $3600 for the wrap from a local shop (the only shop in town that does wraps). But I have a buddy the worked at the same shop as a wrap installer that's going to do it for free... Cost of materials is between $500 and$1100 depending on the brand and color/pattern of wrap.
There's no way I would spend $3600.. but under $1000 is totally worth it for me. Extend the life of my OEM paint, self healing for small scratches, get a new cool looking color

Plus I'm going to learn how to wrap which might come in handy later on with other vehicles.

$3600 is a fair price, but under $1k is a steal. Most of the high end wrap jobs I've seen are well north of $5k.

Yeah look around online at material prices... The best brands are 3M, Avery, Vvivid and maybe one other. Any consumer can buy enough to do an entire LC for between 500 and 1000 depending on the exact wrap and pattern. Makes you realize how much they're charging for labor. Pretty sure most experienced wrappers can do an entire vehicle in 16-24 hours...so I guess they're charging between $100-175/hr for labor which seems excessively high for the type of work.
