Thanks for all the info. I was about to ask how it sounded. Sound is very important to me. Does it have a subwoofer output (premap RCA)?

Thanks!

Is there any offroad topo sw that works with the nav?

Excellent! I am getting closer. Now the question what to get this month, ARB or nav???.......

If those are your options, get the NAV. I don’t have this same unit, I run iGuidance 3 on a car computer but the NAV made a huge difference in my life. I had the car computer in more than a year before I decided to put in the NAV and GPS. I really didn’t think it would be useful very often…after all, if you are not lost then what use is the NAV? WRONG. It is so convienent I can’t believe it. I use it at least once a week and I always drive right to any new destination. I would have to say I can’t believe I lived w/o a NAV before. I surely never will again.

if you still have your stock head unit, disassemble it and take the face off of it. glue all the buttons to it, and make a false front/cover for your new head unit.....even if it sticks out a bit to cover the volume knob on the new unit. If youre lucky, the volume knobs line up in the same spot, and you can remove the knob. If you dont want to sacrifice your head unit, see if someone can mail you a bad one from here.

you can make it press fit or with small magnets to stick it on. The holding force doesnt have to be great, since the faceplate will be on only when parked. I've done that on a couple of other stereo installs in the past for a nice stealth look.

awesome install.

BTW, check your PMs. Gave you another little tip to help keep that unit around for a while....:grinpimp:

Nice set-up and the M3 is sweet; I had a 2004 M3 in Mystic Blue Metallic with Natural Leather before I moved to Hong Kong. I like your pictures as well, great framing in most of them. I put in an Alpine unit prior to my move to Hong Kong and can't wait to get back and play with it in the future.
Cheers.

Interesting idea. I appreciate the PM too. Thanks again

How is Hong Kong? I haven't been there since '98 when the old airport was still around....the airport of adrenaline junkies lol.

Could you post a pic or two of that part of the install?

That would require me taking my dash apart again. I like you guys, but I'm lazy :D

Why don't I try to explain it better?

  • Remove two screws at bottom of glovebox
Remove whole glovebox (just pull the latch) and lift
Remove screws holding dash speaker (I think there might be two)
Grab your wrench and remove the bolt beneath the passenger side dash speaker (just for sliding wires through)
Run your antenna wires up to the windshield
Hold wire(s) so there is enough slack to slide them between the dash and where the dash aligns with the area below the A pillar
    Slide the wires in
    Replace screws, bolt, and glovebox

At this point you'll have tons of slack in the antenna wires, so you can decide where you want them.

I apologize in advance for my description. I'm doing it on memory (mine sucks), and think that if you're reading this while doing the install it will make better sense.

Where did you mount the antennas (the part that "sees" the signal?)

I have a Sirius that I routed out the back door (under the plastic trim that runs from the footwell to behind the doors, then behind the rear panel, under the window gasket & placed the antenna on the roof.

Thanks for all the input I appreciate it & hopefully will be using it very soon. (delivery date Monday) :D

I haven't figured out exactly where I'm going to finally mount them. Right now they're sitting next to the A pillar on my dash. In plain sight for any thief to see

That's the part I was wondering about. It wasn't clear to me where you put the antennae.

I have left my Stiletto 100 under a shirt when I was recording something but needed to leave the vehicle. (unhappily)

I suggest running them out the back.
