so im doing an engine swap in my 60 going to a 350 v8 small block and the color i decided to paint it is pink but the only high temp paint i can find is VHT engine enamel
after i paint the hot pink VHT engine enamel do i have to paint a clear coat or anything?
(valve covers, oil pan, and timing chain cover are all going to be black)

and i also need to paint my transmission i was going to paint it with left over pink is anything wrong with using engine enamel on a trans

does the can say you need a clear? do they sell a high temp clear? id say you would be ok with out one but im not sure.

I was a little throne off when you said pink, but then i seen your sig line ;)

Lol, I didn't notice the sig...

No the high temp enamels don't need a clear coat, I doubt there is a high temp clear coat anyhow.

Still think it is crazy... but then again I am about to paint my FJ40 with a zebra scheme....so maybe you're not so crazy lol...

:clap:alright thanks i wont even bother looking for one then
haha yeah my dad thinks its crazy too, but hey it better than the outside pink

oh and what about the transmission? is it ok to paint it with engine enamel

I'm going to be doing it myself, still in the planning phase... So I could go really cheap on it, using some rustoleum black and white.

Or I could go a bit more expensive and do white rustoleum w/ Durabak black stripes. This would be pretty cool looking, smooth white with armored stripes lol.

Or I may just skip the zebra and do the whole FJ40 in Durabak sand color... so many choices :hhmm:

Oh and the tranny can be done in engine enamel, but it won't be getting to the same temps as the engine so it may be a bit over-kill but would be best for color match... unless you painted the tranny purple... pink engine/ purple tranny... pretty cool combo lol

well sadly the pink engine enamel is light pink and thats not what i wanted and its the only pink high temp i can find so
im actually going with aluminum engine enamel darn paint places

well it will still look cool even if you go with just Durabak sand color

You can mix spray paints to get different colors.

I used Duplicolors Metal Cast. Stured out great. Quite a few parts were of different colors mixed.

I think if you mixed a white base and then sprayed a red over it you could come up with pink.

From my experience you don't NEED engine paint to paint an engine. Most any decent spray paint works fine as long as the motor is cleaned well and primered with a compatable product. The only issue you might have is discoloring around the exhaust ports on the head but then even "hi-temp" paints will do that. So find a shade of pink you like (or get some mixed and put into spray cans) and have at it!

wont the paint chip off?

I haven't had good luck with any engine 'enamel' on an actual engine, although the Valve cover seems to be holding up fine. The last v8 i built was a nice 350, we used the chevy orange and layered it thick. Still in the process of building the tranny/rear end so it will be a while before i know how well it stays on this time.

Let us know how it turns out!

v8 is asll painted

it took about 4 saturdays to get it finished and back together and about 2 hours to prep for paint :D i think all that work will pay off once its in
