How hard is it to do a pinion bearing and seal mine is going out there is about a 1/4 inch of play in it now. Its on an 89 toyota pu with a 22re.

I work in a shop and I can get parts for cost, I planned on pulling it out but in our documents it stated 6.7 hours to do it you think thats an accurate estimate?

No, that sounds high which it typical for book rates. I used to pay around $150 to have a diff geared if I supplied the parts. That works out to about three hours labor, and suspect it can be done in much less time by somebody with the skill and tools.

That 6.7 hours probably includes the time to remove the third member from the truck. Even then, it's high. Most folks can remove a third in less than an hour.

That is my biggest problem, I would like to do it myself but I don't have a press... I am sure there is more damage then the Pinion bearing, I won't know until I open it up but I might just regear like I said while I have it apart.

just a cheapo 20$ harbor freight press will get you buy for one of these installs. its not hard just a lot of put it in, take it out kinda stuff.
