I have a couple of question. If I remove my headliner will I have access to the area just above the cargo window. I have surface rust under the rear cargo window inside the truck and on inspection it goes up the sides too. My plan is remove the headliner and shoot Rust Doctor into the top area and lower section, also up the sides. I was looking into some sort of flexible wand that attaches to a paint gun and shoot POR's into the pillars after the Rust Doctor sets up.
The only wand I have found is made by 3M and is used to shoot 3M Rust Fighter (Internal Panel Coating) which I'll most likely use if I can't find one that shoots paint. The 3M Rust Fighter comes in quart bottles that screws into a special gun that the wand attaches to.
Has anybody use Rust Doctor? www.therustdoctor.com

Luke, I have used the shutz gun and just last week used it to squirt POR into the hollow space under the tailgate, I attached a 6 inch plastic tube to the short gun barrel, this allowed me to shoot around the corners. I also drilled a couple of 1/2 holes into the far reaches. I then ran a long POR swab to ensure lower crevices were covered.
To prepare the hollow space I heavily degreased with MarineClean and Metal-Ready prepared, then let a small air hose thoroughly dry the space, running on low, while baking in the sun for hours. Hopefully it will arrest the inner side rust. It has worked for me on rockers.

another idea is to drill 1/8 inch holes, then use 3M undercoating with the red small tube then just put a small screw in it.

so is a long wand better or just more access points. I also am hoping that these preservation techniques will prevent the rust bubbles from developing 5 to 10 years from now.

good luck

Thanks jm599, thats great information. I don't have the funds for a frame off and with your info and some great products I may not need to. As I move forward I'll post pic's of the progress.

fyi, I have used this product and it has worked great! I just drilled some 1/4 holes in my rockers and in the back sections and plan to plug those with standard body plugs, eastwood sells the body plugs too, this stuff is not really paint, but more of an oil when applied, then it dries to a waxy type of coating, so nice for interior panels. The way I used it in the rockers was to paint everything as best as I could with zerorust, then let dry, and then apply this stuff. The nice thing is I can just pop out the plugs and reapply or drain the rockers later if needed, even blow them out with compressed air.

Luke111 why not just use POR-15? Everybody seems to love it and say its the best-including myself[/quo

I may do just that, as stated in my first post, but I was concerned about preping the areas I cannot reach to make sure it sticks and holds. I might shoot POR's and then shoot the Rust Fighter Panel Coating.
Same method that Noah used just different products.
I live in Va, it rains, its damp and humid and I would love my Pig to last another 30 years so making sure everything is coated is my main concern and based on the response there are quite a few good options for myself and others to use to protect our Pigs.

Laguna80 thanks for the information on the LPS, all these panel coatings dry like wax, and have amazing sealing properties.
