Guys, have a 78 pig with a FoMoCo carb on it. Dont know how or why that is the case but i am looking for some advice. Truck seems to run OK with it but looks a little weird with extra parts bolted on the valve cover for the throttle linkage and choke.
Should i roll back with an Asin 2f carb and have Jim Chenoweth do a rebuild or just keep rocking the Ford carb. Im not up on my 2F carb options so the FoMo Co carb maybe a common swap...

the Aisin is the best carb. The THC and Cityracers are both aftermarket copies of simplified Aisins. an old OEM carb with a JimC touch would be the business. I'd rock a THC or Cityracer anyday. Weber is for cooking food...

My friends run the Motorcraft Ford carbs. Electric choke. They seem to run very well. Unless they can be mated somehow to a stock air cleaner housing I throw up in my mouth a little when I pop the hoods on these. Not the projectile vomit a Holley or Weber causes though because it actually a decent carb

If you don’t need smog and you don’t have your original Aisin core to send Jim (3-6 month wait) then order a City Racer carb. It’s a no brainer.

Got a bug to replace with a Trollhole knock off. Real purdy. Never ran well at all. Youngest son is a Toyota Tech and referred me to a re builder for the Aisin. $150.00 well spent. 2F starts right off, will idle cold and has no hesitation.

Awesome, thanks for all the advice guys. I don't have a complete Asin right now to send off for rebuild so i may look at the City Racer option. My main concern with the exisiting setup is there is no fuel return line. The gas tank has been taken out of the truck and is currently being run from a plastic boat tank in the back, which is plumbed through the original feed line to the fuel pump and the return on the pump is blocked off. It takes forever for the truck to start because it has to vacuum fuel all the way from the tank since it cant hold a vacuum and keep fuel in it. I have an OE gas tank for it and am going to try and get it put back in and wired correctly.

If anyone has an Asin carb they wanna offload for rebuild though, let me know! :)

Check in the general classifieds. Complete assembled used fj 60 carbs for about 100+ bucks in decent enough shape to rebuild. Does your setup use a cable? That’s another can of fish bait if it does... there are solutions tho...

Are you referring to a throttle cable? It does have a choke cable, but i dont think thats what you are talking about

This is what she is rocking now, and yes it is mechanical throttle linkage

Ford carb on a Chevy six huh?

Not too sure it applies to modern engineering as much but the saying used to be everything old is new again...

dont know for the rod bearings, but the valves are not the same- they can be made to work, tho... and in stainless for much less than stock oem valves...Toyoda took that chevy motor and made it his own. AFAIC, there is no comparison other than the number f slugs and side of the head the plugs are on... F family is far superior to old chevy straight ...
