Well I have been real busy and haven't been able to check your thread in awhile but I see you have been VERY busy too!!!

That is one krazy set of doors you have there:eek:!

So I can't remember, are you going to have rockers or did you cut those off?

Looks great man!!!

Busy huh? You building something?

I cut 'em all the way up to the bottom of the door sills leaving about 1/2". Then, I welded the lip of the sills to some 1" X 3" boxed tube braced to the frame - there's a pic or 2 already posted on that earlier. I also cut some 1/4" perforated metal for the sliders underneath that will mount to the 4 outriggers each side.

Busy huh? You building something?

No!!!! I wish!!! You are right that would be ! No really just working (NOT in the 4x4 business) alot and trying to get settled out here!

You a :bounce2:er at a :princess: club?

Knocked these out pretty quick. Bent up some sheetmetal cup holder bottoms too as I didn't have any
3 1/2" tube for a tight fit around the coozie ;p My door latches came in but they're too light duty made from plastic. They'll be used somewhere else. Think I'll order those bear claw latches instead........

a cup holder with a can cuzie too. now that is awesome lololo

It was super easy. I'll put out the pics tonight when I get home and send them over. Maybe I'll even renew my star and post them... we'll see.

I've been doing everything 2 weeks late these days. It's frickin cold up here! (california boy just moved to Oregon a few months ago...wow.)

Here is some crappy pics of how I mounted the bearclaw latches in the 55 for the front passenger door as an example. If you want to see a much better job of this find buckroseau's fj45lv thread... that guy's got skillz.

i still need to find pics of what the actuators looked like. Basically I saved all of the actuator pieces from the heep I pulled the handless off of, plus what came from the old door handles and cut/bent some new ones. It works really well.

I just got through ordering 2 pair of large bear claw latches from some online rod shop :bounce2: Thanks for the pics - I'll check out that build you mentioned too ;p Did they supply some sort of template or do you just guess how much to cut out of the door? Looks like it'll be tricky lining up the door catch w/ the claw latch. Did you use flush mounted handles? That's what I'm gonna look for at the yard soon....

I ordered mine from Guage magazine hot rod shop... they had the best prices I could find and sold a combo with the striker plate and a weld in plate for the latch too. Alignment is super easy. You weld in the latch first, then shut the door and draw a spot through it with a sharpie where it hits the pillar. This gives you the point you need to align the striker to. Once you've got the striker in place, the bolt threads into it and has a fair amount of alignment play so that you can get it just right. I can't believe how well these things secure a door. They even have electric versions.

Good luck. let me know if you need more pics, I'll try to snap 'em although I'm not working on the cruiser much right now since I just moved and trying to get settled.

Cheers,

J

Mine came with what you see in the pics you posted - no weld in plate, striker & no instructions :meh: Can you post up a pic of the inner door & how you attached the outer handle w/ linkage to the claw latch? Thanks a bunch

Door Hinges:

Nice digs Roy :D

I decided to go the NAPA pin kit route on these. Got the tops of the front & rears done. The rear (top right)took a little pin mod to get it seated within the inset of the hinge pin allowance. All I did was cut the bottom off (where the c clip was supposed to fit) w/ my dremel, bevel it, recut a circular recessed area for the c clip, & finally cut a groove into the hinge for the c clip to fit. I also had to grind off the shoulder (taking care not to cut into the splined area) on all the pins in order for them to seat.
Onto the bottom hinges (top left). I did have a ? about whether to find pins to join both sections together or just tap both holes, in the part that bolts to the door (mocked up bolts in pic). I'm mainly concerned about too much friction/resistance on the hinge when snugging the bolts down :meh: Maybe I could hold the tapped section of the pin boss short so I could torque it down & still have a little play for the movement. I assumed there's a spacer in between the door limiter plates, right?

Lower Door Hinges:

Here's what I ended up doing about the pivot @ the lower door limiter plate connection. I bought 8 - 10MM metal coated bushings & 8 - 8MM stainless dowel pins from McMaster-Carr. They didn't have metric captured pins so I'll weld a stainless washer on top of the pins. I could have bought the standard steel, but I didn't need 25 of them in a pack & the stainless ones were 10 per box. I'm already setup for stainless so no big deal, just change out my wire & switch to an argon gas bottle. I drilled out the 2 holes, where the stock splined pins were installed, to be a press fit for the 8MM pins, then drilled out the plates for 10MM. I didn't want to overhone out the 10MM holes so I left it a little small & filed to fit. I still have some trimming to do on the smaller pin bushing........

WOW!!

You thought of producing these for us less fortunate?

Lower Hinges Done:

These pieces fit together just right :bounce2: I left a tight tolerance for the pins & they pressed in w/o too much force. The springs were installed last. I cycled the hinges many times & didn't notice any binding anywhere:
