The buzzards have been circling around this one. Yes, I'm one of those damn buzzards. Occasionally I do a search at the local U Pull & Pay. They had a listing for a 76 Land Cruiser. Had to be a 40 or 55. I took a half day to go check it out. My guess is that it's been there a while. It's nearly picked clean. There's evidence that it had power steering and a/c. Somebody scored big. Here's some pics. Anybody know what part that is in the last pic?

I'm guessing that this was a desert pig. The body shell is in really good shape, considering. The roof has no rot. If anybody out there want's to make a road trip for this, I'll do what I can to help out.

It's definitely from the speedometer under the dash. The other end went to the transfer case. I'm just trying to understand the power supply to it. I'm wondering if it's a speed sensor. I'm also wondering why would it need that.

Any chance of taking more pics of the body?

I might go back out if I have a chance. I felt guilty for taking apart the front axle just for the disc brake bits. I'm debating on going back for at least the third member on that front axle. Are you still looking for the rear fender flares? From what I remember the passenger side was pretty decent, but the driver's had rust and some damage due to an impact. Rain gutters were in great shape.

I have a ‘75 and am wondering if doors, front clip etc are inter changeable with a ‘76?
My roofline and other parts are destroyed. I am wondering if it would be more time/cost effective to switch out the bodies?

Man, if I were in need of body parts, this would be quite the opportunity. Put it on a rotisserie and clean her up!

X2. This was the same scenario I dealt with. I bought my 77 and the body was trashed. I found a 74 body in better shape and swapped them out.
Your doors and front clip will swap over to this body. The two passenger doors were still there and in good shape. I have no idea what U Pull & Pay would charge for that shell. Give them a call. I'll do whatever I can to help.

Oh yeah, save that Piggy!

Just talked to the lady and she said they don't sell only crush those shells beacuse they dont have the titles. My bones groaned when she said this. She is looking into it further for me. What would be a good price for the thing. She said the doors go for $80 each

A motivated owner could probably apply for a Lost Title or something like that. Then they might sell?

I'd argue that they would let you go in and cut body parts off that thing, so why not let you just take the complete shell? Offer to leave the VIN plate on the door strike with them. I doubt they know about the frame being stamped with a VIN #, unless all vehicles are that way. It would be easier to transport if the frame came with it.

Don’t know the law in NM but you should be able to leave the VIN tag and VIN number off the frame rail and haul the rest off as scrap, I agree with the others that body will save you a ton of work if you have a rusty body.
