TY,
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought you were leaning toward the step sliders.

BTW, you dun good.

Correct, but one of the truths my trip uncovered for me was that you really need to see a product up close and personal to appreciate it, AND decide once and for all if it's what you really want ... my expectations were off a few times. For ex, I've always slammed ARB's as ugly, but in person they are pretty good looking. Besides why on Earth would I put step sliders on such a hard core 80?? :flipoff2:

TY,
Nice setup.

The cut front bumper is well executed.

BTW, what's that color name?

Brian (Slee employee) and I worked on the final lines of it. My only request really was that it define a curve based on a continuation of the flares themselves .. and maintain the free tire-flare space. Brian did an exceptional job on the task .. not only with a steady set of hands on the saw, but also in creating symmetry side to side with both cuts. It was a pretty important step in putting the finishing touches on not only the 'look' of the truck, but also allowing the 80 to flex without rubbing the 36's ..

Nice Ty. Glad its what you want. You save up your money and come back when you can wheel some.

Roger that! When I come back .. I'll definately have a bag of money and a bigger slot of time to spend wheeling ..

WOW! budy sweet RIG . nice job TY NOw you'll have to head out to the coast and we can get it dirty!

I'd love to hit the West coast again .. time and money will tell .. but I'll get there again, no worries!

Rig looks great dude, glad it all came together.

Starbucks in the morning is hard to beat, definately puts everyone in the right mood.

The pics I got turned out a little crummy since I was trying to sneak up on you guys.

Come back this way any time, you were a cool cat to hang with.

Peace,
Adrian

Your 80 looks great! What kind of MPG did you get with the 36s and stock gears?

Hey! You are on this board .. wasn't sure your nic on here. :)

Dude, you were a blast!! Thanks for all your help in the build ..

Peace,

When I get my CC bill, I'll let you know .. I figure around 3.5 to 3.65 MPG :D

I'm not sure if you're serious or not :flipoff2: Funny questions .. Yes of course it was clean! The waxed floor reflected more light than my mellon .. and there are ample red leather sofas .. I sat in there surfing on the wireless network for his customers. When you go into the kitchen area check out the cool coffee maker.

Tyler,

Of course I'm not being serious. I'm just poking fun at some other thread we had a while ago.

Looks damn good. 36's on a 4" lift has the proportions perfect.

Believe me that 'other' thread went thru my mind .. thats why two things went thru my head. I thought either you arthored the other thread, or you were pokin fun at it. Happy to see it's the latter :)

Hey T Y, what kept you from the 6 inch? In my thought process i'm thinking, you are so close to being there, why not go another inch or two? Is it really "that" much higher? Just to me, i'm at 2.5 now, if i decide to move up i want to really move up, you know. Seems like 4 inchs stops just short of the goal. Don't get me wrong, it looks awesome and from what you state rides great. Other than the parking garage (or perhaps that was the biggest reason) why not go all out?

I think the parking garage was the biggest reason for TY.

Plus if he can stuff 36's with 4", why go higher? Just makes for a higher center of gravity.

looks good.
yes the bumper cut looks very nice.
Not sure what was cut on the rear flaps.

Strangely, the first 2 pics suggest that the rear went down a bit. That for real?

It's a good question, but you need to come at it from the other angle:

What should you gain from more lift?

Clearance in approach/depature/breakover angles
Increased suspension travel
Ability and need to run larger tires

Choosing the 6" lift out of the box vs. the 4" only gets you the clearance.

The 6" lift is still using the same OME L shocks, mounted in the stock postion. You cannot get additional suspension travel with identical shocks and identical suspension components such as radius arms that are already limiting flex.

You also cannot run larger tires, because the shocks compress to the same point. Essentially the 6" suspension has the same L shocks extended 2" at static ride height, which increases reliance on up travel for flex...not good for those wanting to go up in tire size. Ty would have needed the same bump stops and same trimming with the 6" lift unless something else is limiting up travel.

So the question of "why not go all the way" is answered in part by "a lack of a major out of the box advantages" combined with center of gravity disadvantages of the taller lift.

Now, if you plan to redesign the front end to a three link or even a simple radius arm setup with upper arms in a y-link and larger bushings to allow the necessary flex, and you plan to space down the shock travel along with longer travel shocks and redesigned shock mounts so you can run larger tires without limiting suspension travel, then you have created a good rational for the taller lift because it is the basis for a more comprehensive project.

Now, Ty's setup is not perfect. That ramp pic he posted looks like about 500 RTI, which is horrible for a rig with that much potential suspension travel. But he got the first part right - the smallest amount of lift to fit the largest tire you want to run without trashing the looks of the rig (and why have a long travel suspension on a road rig?).

Bottom line: if you need 6" of lift, you should be looking at 37"/38" tires and redesigning the suspension to improve travel by at least 50% if not more. Stockish flex and 35/36's fit the 4" lift perfectly. I would go so far as to say that Slee's 4" lift pretty much makes the 6" kit obsolete, except that it is a great platform for a custom project.

Great looking rig T Y.
Are you using the L shocks in the front? If so, did Slee install a spring retainer(s) to keep the spring seated at full articulation? I am getting ready to install their 4" kit and was wondering.

Thanks.

Ty,

Was Christo's waiting area clean & nice? Did they have nice seats for you to seat?
Did they perform the work in the estimated time?

How about the kitchen area?

Nice rig.

Alvaro

Too funny, good one from the past..... Leave it up to one of the NorCal guys

From the other thread it would seem that there has been a change in the spring length of the front springs. You might want to comfirm with SLee to find out which set you have.

Silver on the front gold on the back?

I don't get it???????

To get it .. you have to get me .. and that ain't possible. :flipoff2: I'm a nutbar, plain and simple. A few years ago, I went and had a guy send me his used bling, and I mounted it on mine...then last year I replaced it with my original silver, except for the rear .. I need to wait for a warm day to do that. And lord knows the entire summer wasn't long enough for me to get around to it then!

Go out and look at your mud flaps then look at the pic. The upper/inner aspect was cut as well as some of the inside flare lip.

The rear does look lower, not sure why considering the spare is even gone in the second, and it is loaded with luggage; albeit light stuff. But it's LEVELLLL.

My ramp pic was limited by the rear flaps not being taken off. We ramped it as far as we wanted, so when we drove it off it wouldn't run the risk of ripping into the flare. We removed as much as we could. As Christo said . when I wheel I need only remove all the flares, and I will be good to flex more .. without any worries.

Nay mentions some great points above. I think for the shocks I have, and the suspension setup (no 3-link etc) I have achieved something pretty functional, without the need to go higher, and higher .. I'm tickled pink that once the rear flaps are removed at the trail I can stuff and flex pretty well with this setup, AND still get into my condo parking. Funny that what I saw as one of the biggest roadblocks to my getting into a 6" suspension (the parking garage) turned out to be the thing that drove me towards creating this solution .. of 4" suspension .. level stance ... with flex, and able to stuff my 36's. :)

It's a gentlemen's rock crawler ..

Nice cruiser, very clean no scratches or anything. :flipoff2:

Anywho, that setup is amazing the 36's and that lift combo look great. I think we all want to see her dirty!
