Samco only comes in 1 meter lengths straight... but it does come in black... do you think it could be done with only 3 ft?

Send me an e-mail to brett.l.fischer@gmail.com for refund on the short hose if anyone wants to do this instead. I am running out of hose about every 2 weeks now...

Also just a note... I have bought a lot of the Silicone that is cheaper than the Samco to compare and find something that is similar but at a lower cost, and I have found you get what you pay for... pay attention to specs they claim. There is a very subtle difference... the cheaper silicone manufacturers claim "manufactured in accordance with ISO xxx" or whatever standard... it basically means they set up their manufacturing in theory to attain the standards, yet never check or actually get the cert... my father-in-law is one of the founding fathers of ISO and told me that this is a trick a lot of manufacturers use to fool people into thinking they have high standards... it doesn't mean squat if you don't actually test to those standards after the fact and get the certs... big difference.

Don't know if the difference would mean a failing hose on a Land Cruiser or not, but I didn't want to invest my time installing something that I saved a $5 on only to cost me something greater down the road (or while on the road). I was planning on doing a new web site in my spare time (yeah right...) I have cut cross sections of several silicone hoses advertised on the web and some other types of hose (Good Year high mileage hose)... In the pic, you can see the nylon re-enforcements they put into the hose... Samco, at the top has 2-3 layers of it with High temp silicone vulcanized silcone encasing it without any vacuum gaps that is very flexible in the 60mm length of the PHH the outer layer looks like 2 closely piled nylon sleeve re-enforcements with a 3rd inner layer ... other Silicone hoses had no re-enforcement and were a lot stiffer in 60mm lengths than the Samco and didn't have nearly the amount of nylon re-enforcement... also, the way they manufacture it to look like the good stuff, actually creates a gap between the inner and outer layers of the hose... you can also tell that the cheaper brands use a lot less density of the nylon sleeve for the re-enforcement, when they do use it. The lower left side is the nicest non-Samco silicone sample hose I bough, the middle is Gates and the right is the Goodyear. The higher quality rubber hoses were robust, but were way stiffer than the silicone stuff and would be a lot harder to wiggle onto the nipple... the Goodyear hose was close to the Gate Green Stripe, but I thought the Gates was still better in terms of construction and flexibility.

That is some good info...
I'll try to determine if 3ft of hose would work... I think that would be pushing it.

I am interested in this optional approach! :hillbilly:

What would it cost for the kit with Gates?

I was going to offer this as another non-factory option in Samco ($$$) or Gates ($$)... if there was enough interest, I would...

Less than 3 feet will work if you route it between the master cylinder and the intake. That's where mine is routed and also why it's sleeved.

SFL16Superflex Hose 5/8" Bore 3'3"(1m) Long$54.82
I think I could go with that.. its Samco Sport and flexes!

Would I still need to sleeve it? $54 isn't that much considering all the money I save by doing Land Cruiser work myself now

3 or 4 ply polyester reinforced silicone with a stainless steel wire helix buried within the plies for ultimate flexibility.

Silhoses.com makes every attempt to stock Blue, Black and Red versions of Samco Sport Hoses, but due to the high quality process of manufacturing these products this is not always possible. If the part you order is not in stock, you will be notified. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery since all products are hand made in the U.K and require extra transit time to arrive. No payments will be charged to a customer's credit card until the product has arrived at our location and confirmation has been sent to the customer.

Fullscale – I just asked for 5/8” heater hose in the hi-temp quality… I’ll try to get accurate measurements for you and post later. Napa can order the constant-torque clamps in many sizes.

I just ask for 5/8 ID Hydraulic hose. It's cheap(er) than the silicone stuff, easier to find, and good to like 700 psi (Which according to Mythbusters is twice the PSI to make a water heater blow 400 feet into the air).

3.5ft Gates work around kits will be available on the website shortly...

Looking forward to the work around option! Keep us posted!

I just tried this on my truck with 3.5 ft... you have to go inside the Master Cylinder with only 3.5 ft... unless I am totally missing something. I like the smoother bends of going around the master so I will cut a longer piece tonight and measure it.

Brett-

I was curious to the stated lenght and if it would be adequate? Thanks for confirming. On the new install I would also consider enough lenght that guys can sleeve the bypass hose. I plan on using a 1" hose to sleeve the 5/8" hose and I believe that a longer piece of the 5/8" will be needed for smoother bends.

Just replaced all my heater hoses with 5/8" Gates green stripe and Breeze constant torque clamps (CTC), bypassed the PHH pipe with 4' of 5/8" Gates green stripe and sleeved it with 1" universal gates heater hose. Also, replaced the OEM clamps around the radiator with CTC very happy with the out come and piece of mind.

^^ Great job. I'll be copying that !

Perfect... you beat me to it... I am finishing up mine tonight and got 4' as well... 3.5' for those who want to go inside of the Master Cylinder... still ok, just a preference thing. Like the bypass... is that just to avoid leaky hard lines or is there another issue that people are bypassing the rear heater?

Thanks! I spent most of yesterday afternoon replacing hoses and clamps and it was the perfect time to knock this mod out. I removed the rear heater almost 2 years ago when replacing the head gasket, as I have never had a need for it and have found the front heater to more than enough. Many have bypassed the rear heater as well, considering the hard lines can be an issue- mainly caused by corrosion.

Awesome! I should have thought of this a long time ago!

I will also be doing this swap while my motor is apart!

Thanks! Obviously this is not my idea- just using the wealth of information provided here on MUD!
