Got the blanks from DX for next to nothing, inner milling (standard on LCs as well over here). A major Lock Company cut them, no probs. Might have been nice to me because I buy all locks and handles for work from them, but they do inner milling, side milling, and combinations thereof. Normal locksmiths cut only standard keys.

Regular local locksmith cuts mine - nothing special about them in his book, and they always work perfectly.

Your signature says LC100. You might be talking of regular LC100 keys (US stndrd), and not inner milling which is standard on LX (and on LC elsewhere).

Here's a Lexus blank:

And here's a LC100 US-version key blank:

Quite right. Didn't realise the keys were such a different format for the LXs. My bad.

Does anyone know the range of the transponder key? Long enough that I could keep the transponder in the glove box?

I was using one of those Camry style transponder keys and people borrowing the truck managed to twist it hard enough to break the metal part of the key loose from the rubber. So now it spins in there when I turn it in the ignition.

I don't normally lock my doors as I keep nothing of value in the truck. So if I could keep my old transponder key in the glovebox or somewhere else inside, and use one of the metal keys, that would be great.

Definitely not, but you could always pull off the plastic right under the ignition and tape the transponder beneath the ignition so that it's out of sight but you don't need a transponder key to fire the truck. But that's also not really safe... Your truck, your call

Oh how fabulous. Thank you - saved myself $480 today - you are a legend......

You can buy the shell with key without the transponder/remote insides for sort of cheap btw. If that's what you were looking for.

I had tried to do this at two sep. locations without luck - was told it was not possible for Landcruiser, which I found odd as other Toyota models were possible - however, I will try again - thanks

Check EBay. Key shells for Land Cruisers can be bought for around $5-$10 each. Go ahead and get two...

Do you have a Toyota or Lexus (external cut key or internal cut key)?

I think i got mine from Onur or CruiserDan, gave them my VIN and they also cut it for vehicle before they mailed it to me (i did have to take a file to a very small section of the key to make it match my factory key)
