This is not an original mod, but i decided since my motor was still relatively new and clean i better stop the PCV now before it's too late.

I saw Nat doing this mod on filmpro's truck on expedition portal. So i ordered up the same thing and gave it a try.

Picked up the kit from jegs.com . Here is a link: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performance+Products/555/52205/10002/-1

It was a easy install. Litterally i just cut the stock hose and inserted the catch can between the hose halves. The hose will support the catch-can so no need to use the bracket. I also used some thread tape for the brass fittings just to ensure it's not going to leak.

Here are a few pictures.

I need to do this eventually. For now I've been using disposable Fram fuel filters which is kind of "ghetto.":hillbilly::D

I have a pvc homemade version on my Liberty CRD. I've been using steel wool as the filter. However I dont vent mine back into the engine. It vents out down by the driverside wheel well. Clean it out every oil change. I do have some leaks due the the plastic fittings.

I have a similar set up. I am catching a beige "milky" substace. More so recently in the cold weather as opposed to summer. I'm not seeing the common symptoms of a HG failure, although I've noticed a few ounces of coolant loose in the overflow tank over a couple thousand miles.

It does use about a quart of 15w/40 every 1,000 miles. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

I have the same milky stuff in my catch all, not losing any coolant or any oil in coolant. I think it's just condensation since it does filter water too.

It is a water coalescing filter, doing it's job removing moisture :D

Nice install. I've used toyota non-efi fuel filters in the past on a few vehicles, this is easier to drain.

condensation. scares the crap out of ya tho, doesn't it?

what is the purpose of that hose?
can you just block it off and reconnect for smog checks?

is the air flowing from the intake into the head or the other way... or both ways?

airflow is from the engine to the intake.

PCV system stands for positive crankcase ventilation. At idle speeds a small amount of air flows from the engine to the intake to create a small amount of suction in the crank case so that any combustion fumes that get past the rings will then go thru the engine again to be burned. Some oil mist will travel in the PCV system. The catch can's purpose is to stop the oil mist without stopping the airflow.

Some of the newer cars have built-in vapor seperators (1/2/3UR engines) which allow the coalesced oil mist to travel back into the crank case automatically.

Bottom line is that less oil mist in the intake could prevent gumming up of the intake.

It's been shown that, we believe, the PCV is causing a gummed up EGR system in the intake. So, this keeps that from happening.

A home made fabbed up system is fine too, i just felt like it was cleaner and a better system for the price. A long time ago either tools or turbo (maybe clown midget) showed the installation of a home made system. Either way, i think they are a good addition.

Once a month mostly because of the moisture in the line. It's not a DD so not often.

Wow, that still seems like a lot! I was hoping it was a once an oil change kind of thing.

I guess that's also why Toyota says it's normal for these trucks to burn a quart of oil between changes.

Well it's not full, I just see moisture in it and empty and clean it. Maybe its 1/8 full in a month

how often are you having to empty yours?

I typically empty mine every 3,000 to 5,000 miles

Early on, I was checking and draining it more often but found it unnecessary as it was never even close to full.

I usually drain out several ounce from the PCV catch can vs 1/3 of that on the throttle body side.
