"Old Red" is 1FJ4010451. So it's a 1961? A 1962? Partially a 25? Mostly a 40? (Err . . . yes! I think?)

Going to pick her up this week. Don't know a damn thing about any of this stuff. Greetings all. First post.

(Not posting to discuss the sales transaction, the history of this particular vehicle, my future plans for her or to show photos. Some other time maybe?)

Just hoping for a jump start on purchasing for the time being:

1. Complete used OEM air filter assembly for apron-fed intake.

2. Five used OEM street-worthy wheels and three closed/two open-center OEM hub caps in fair enough shape. And five good used (but slightly oversized?) military rubbers too?

3. Used OEM front passenger and driver seats in refurbish-able shape or better. (Good luck, eh?)

4. Front OEM two-sided turn signal assemblies (assuming two-sided are in fact correct?) with whatever color combination lenses are supposed to be correct (clear front/red back, or amber front /red back? I don't know.) in typical used, old, faded shape.

5. Front OEM park lamp lenses, clear, again in typical used, old, faded shape.

Every lead appreciated. More on the wish list to come I am sure. Indispensable forum. Many thanks all!

Hello Pardion.

I am in B.C.S., Mexico at the moment. The cruiser is in the Sacramento area, where I will be later this week. And then later this month or in June I will be driving across the U.S. to North Carolina and Virginia for awhile. So I can either travel for parts and pick them up myself or yet another option is that I can always have parts shipped to my brother's house in San Diego.

Got something for Old Red?

Progress Report

Big thanks to those Mud members who have so far been in touch!

Have located the turn signals, air filter assembly, park lamp lenses, and three wheels.

Still looking for: All four, old, faded, but usable OEM turn signal lenses (Are you waiting on the reproduction lenses and can let your originals go?); Two more wheels; All five used, imperfect, OEM hub caps; and both OEM front seats in repairable condition.

Please let me know if you have, or know where to get some of this stuff.

Gettn' there!

Other stuff Old Red needs.

Looking for the cover plate, spring and rod shown in this photo. Also looking for a rear view mirror bracket if anyone has one. I have the mirror, just no bracket.

Also, to update, I scored two beat-up hub caps recently but I am still on the hunt for three more. Also scored four used 7.00 x 15LT Cooper Super Traction Treads that are going to look great on the 40 once I can locate one more wheel (still need two, though). Will continue to update this thread as more items are crossed from the list.

Cheers!

Might have a rim and with an old snow cruiser still on it..... have to check though

Also try Pming Brewster here on the board he was selling a pair of early doors for $100 bucks a while back with the parts you need.

Update

Got all the wheels I need plus two extras.

Got all the hubcaps I need plus one extra.

Going to pick up the front seats tomorrow.

(Found the rear view mirror bracket as well.)

Still looking for four screw-in turn signal lenses (used, nos, repros, whatever) and the door parts as pictured/described above. But, thanks to Mud member responses my wish-list has shrunk considerably and I have even located a bunch of other stuff not mentioned above.

Thanks!

In addition to the seats today I also picked up the access cover for the door pictured above. The spring and rod I'll just improvise.

When I inquired today with the same guy who sold me the seats as to whether he might also have some used screw in turn signal lenses as well, he just laughed at me (in good fun, of course). "Rare as hen's teeth," he said. "I haven't physically held any of those in 30 years." And this guy has a bunch of cruiser stuff. So the search goes on.

Probably the last update for awhile given that I've knocked almost everything off the list. For now, that is.

Thanks again!

Mirror questions.

1. First photo. Is this the correct mirror post for a '61 FJ40?

2. Second photo. Is there a stud and nut on the back side of this mirror head?

3. A 1961 FJ40 would have had a round mirror instead of a rectangular mirror, correct?

My mirror post.

Cruiser_Nerd's mirror head photo.

Thanks JP. Put in an order with Toyota today for two mirrors (gonna put one on the existing aftermarket post on the passenger side as well just because it's already there) and also ordered from Toyota the grommet that surrounds the steering column for a FJ25, along with some brake and clutch pedal pads for a 40, which I learned today are different from the 25 pedal pads thanks to Cruiser_Nerd's notation in the part # thread. My transmission has been converted to floor shift so I am hoping the FJ25 column/firewall dust shield I ordered will be a good fit? We'll see.
