About to refurb my rear sway bars (thanks Onur) and I sure hope I don't have the problem above. I have already welded the driver side bracket to the frame after I sheared the upper bolt flush with the frame (and then proceeded to break the bolt extractor too).

I had this same problem when doing the OME kit. Had to weld that plate to the frame too. Can't one take this all apart by disconnecting the lower bolt and leaving the upper one attached to the frame?

That's how I did it. The sway bar bracket doesn't need to come off to complete this service.

2001 LC rear sway bar diameter

Hi..I have a 2001 LC with the original factory sway bar. I want to change the bushing to poly, but need the diameter. Anyobe knoiw what the diameter is?

Thanks

2 questions...

How the heck to you get that top nut off the front links?

Is there any way to pull the whole front ASB off without removing the torsion bars?

I have no problem with access, I just cant undo the top nuts on the links. I PB blasted it last night and will try again today. I have a feeling the dremel is going to make an appearance. I have the whole bar disconnected and laying on the torsion bars. Just need to get the links off so I can bolt it all back together

Get a 1/2" breaker bar and pull the wheel. If it comes off it will come off. It it breaks, it was going to break anyways. Just easier to find the answer with a 1/2" breaker bar. Or just remove it :)

I ended up just cutting them off. The combination of old cv grease, road grime and the pressure pushing up from the bushings was a lethal combination.

Is there a way to take the sway bar out without removing the torsion bars?

Yes, undo all the mounts and the sway will drop free. Remove the end links and push the driver end of the sway bar passed the cv boot (carefully) and "loop" it around until the passenger side slides between the frame and torsion bar, the passenger side will be free. Drop the passenger side and push it forward under the front skid until the whole thing "loops" around and the driver side frees up. It's like removing a banana from a tight area. Just have to rock it back and forth until both ends are free. First time took me 25 minutes, next round will be much quicker. The rear is very simple, almost a 10 minute banana job.

I have it dropped free, I just can't figure out how to loop it out. I'll probably leave it, I don't want to attempt to thread it back in after I put the new end links on there.

Here's a comparison of stock vs MAF rear sway bar links... about 1.75" longer than stock.

Just a couple notes... If you buy the front sway bar link assemblies, I believe it already comes with the bushing (48849-60010) installed. So, if you buy that list, you'll have two extra bushings leftover. I purchased end bushings only and pressed them into my old links which were in good condition. Takes a little extra time. You don't need a press, a bench vise and soapy water will do.

FRONT
Sway Bar Link Assy - L

48820-60032 (same as right)

Sway Bar End Bushing
qty 2x
48849-60010

For those with AHC, this rear bushing will be different but the bracket is the same. I believe the front is the same AHC or not.

REAR

48815-60140

If your suspension is lifted, I'd forego these rear links and get those 80 series extended links from MAF or whoever else offers them.

Sway Bar Links
qty 2x
48802-60090

If you are running extended rear shocks, I'd check your rear sway bar brackets as one of mine was bent pretty good prior to getting extended links.

Can anyone confirm what other parts might be different for an AHC?

I think this is the equivalent rear part for 48815-60140 --> AHC 48815-26250 : BUSH, STABILIZER (FOR REAR)

I wish I could find a site with LX470 diagrams. Lexuspartsnow referenced in this thread does not have diagrams for this parts list.

Just ordered all the replacement parts I needed for front and Rear from Sam Stewart at Lowe Toyota for $243.11. Took him just 60 minutes to quote me. I mentioned IH8MUD for a discount.
Here is a PDF of all the parts in case you want to walk into your local dealer. I included Sam's Contact. You can e-mail this list directly to him as I did.

Good catch on the rear bush part number. For the rear that is the only difference. I updated my blog to reflect the option.

For those of you who haven't seen this blog you should.

Agreed RobRed has done a nice job with the 100 Blog.

The Red nighttime tactical lights in the interior are cool. European cars, like my M5, have this and it makes the interior glow without being at all distracting. He's got way more projects that I would ever need.

As part of my ongoing maintenance and refurbishment of my 2000 Land Cruiser I'm freshening up the sway bar bushings and mounts. This list is for anti-roll bars only. I will be doing the control arm bushings as well in a separate list. I'm using all OEM parts.

Note: Some of the lock nuts have changed for later model crusiers - double check with toyota for the proper part numbers for your truck.

What are the bushings in the panhard bar for the rear? I see numbers, for the bolts, washer, and nut. :hhmm:

Thank you all for the nice comments. It's a love thing... the more you do the more you want to do with them (100's).

I just posted a CV axle replacement article... wow brand new axles are nice! Smooth and driveline thunk reduced to almost nothing. I had no idea they would effect that but what do you know?!?!
