The parking brake cable on my 86FJ60 with a just-installed 4" spring lift seems to be too taught between the under-body mount point and the rear axle mount point. Do I need to fab up a drop bracket or something to ease that situation?

Thanks... I need to crawl back under there to have a look... it just SEEMS like there just isn't enough cable to make it. I hadn't done anything special in my old 85FJ60 when I installed a new PB cable so you are probably right...

Anyone else?

Bringing this back as I (today) have the same question. I've installed an OME suspension on my '86 FJ60 and have installed longer brake hoses (frame to axle housing), lengthened the axle breather hoses, fabricated and installed a spacer for the LSPV, and installed MAF's extended sway bar links front and rear. I didn't think ahead of time that the parking brake cable could be affected. It looks like the cable at the rear axle housing bracket has provisions for sliding back and forth in the bracket, but the travel is limited to a couple of inches. If I bolt the bracket back up to the axle housing the sleeve on the cable is about centered in the bracket. Seeing as how the bracket is attached at about the midpoint of the axle, the flex should be minimal when going over obstacles. I'm thinking of bolting it up and checking the travel by first jacking up the axle. Then I'd lower the axle and load a bunch of heavy stuff in the rear cargo area to check the other direction. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like you’ve thought of everything.

Just a heads up. The FZJ80 parking brake length is a lot longer than the FJ60/62. When I swapped axles to a 97 FF rear you need to use their parking brake cable.

I went back out in the garage to wrap things up and noticed the fabric reinforced rubber hanger at the rear axle housing bracket has a lot of flex to it also, so no danger of binding things up with extreme (for me at least) flex and spring extension. I'm pretty sure I'm good to go.
