Painting with a 30 gallon air compressor

Done some painting with a smaller compressor like that. HVLP guns don’t use a ton of air so it’s doable IMO. The biggest thing to take into consideration is the moisture created by the semi-continuous running that a smaller compressor will do to provide air to paint larger sections. Any amount of moisture in the paint or on the substrate will cause major issues. I would focus on creating a system that would provide the driest air possible regardless of the size of air compressor used.

I've painted body panels with my old 30 gal Campbell Hausfeld compressor. It cycles a bit, but wasnt bad. I had some imperfections(specs) the 1st time. I eventually put a cooler and dryer between the compressor and tank, then a dryer on the exit of the tank to the main air line. I also put one of those desecant dryers on the hlvp gun from harbor freight. My results were greatly improved. Idk, if the specs were from water or not. but there were no more specs. I have to say when it comes to painting I have no clue what I'm doing.
