OK, I need some expert advice on this one. After taking off my 1F oil pan and cleaning it, I have found black paint on the inside. I have overhauled a lot of engines over the years, but I have never seen an internally painted oil pan on any of those cars or trucks. The previous owner doesn't think the oil pan was ever taken off and should be factory.
I'm sure I know the answer to this, but...does anyone know if Toyota painted the inside of the oil pans on the 1F engines (my FJ40 is a 1970 for reference)?
I'm not looking forward to it, but feel like all the paint needs to be stripped off and the pan should be bare metal on the inside.
