OK decision time.

* Going to stay with the 4.5 but the decision to stay with mine and rebuild or buy a new short block will be determined most likely tomorrow.
* Having the S/C checked at Magnusen in Ventura thanks to a good tip.
* The LX is going to get worked on at K&H starting later this week.
* The block, regardless of which I use, will be bored out to 4.7 (2mm over).
* I need to order the Cometic gasket and the ARP headbolts this week.
* I will work with Onur to determine what else I will need.
* The S/C is finally going to get installed.

All at the same time I am getting a low mileage 2F installed into my "other" FJ60. Its going to be a spendy month for sure :P

Does the brand new OEM shortblock (for $2787.06) include the rotating assembly also or just the engine block? If it does, why would you bore out the new block to a 4.7?

Its everything. I would need to replace pistons and rings. It all depends on the condition of my existing motor.

If you are going to bore it over built yours or buy a core motor. Don't buy a new shortblock to do that. Not worth it. Lantank made the unobtainium bushing and you can buy it from AJKoverland (I think). If you use a new shortblock you will buy a lot of parts double.

Budget about $7k for a drive in, drive out regular rebuild. We have priced it either way. New shortblock vs rebuilding existing. Both work out about the same depending on your machining costs. One you pay Beno for parts, one you pay your happy machine shop. If you do not have access to a reliable machine shop that you can trust, then trust Toyota.

4.7 Swap is about $15k and that is with a used drivetrain. If you want a rebuilt motor, then it will be $6k on top of that.

Of all the options, I would take a Turbo 1FZ above anything else.

Dizzying numbers. We sure love these trucks.

Yeah, and I was just noticing how much the Sub-Zero 2.0-mm overbore pistons and goodies cost!!!!

Or buy a cheap Toyota econobox and enjoy problem/worry free driving with good MPG while you let us help you make up your mind......Quit renting those Fords man!!

Joey, not sure if you have made up your decision or not but i'd look at this as an option also

4.6 Hipo 1FZ build.... then you can add the SC to that.... and if you really want to go wild get the 6 speed and atlas combo with it.

If I was going to stay all yota and my engine just went boom.... that is the route i'd go.... those are very good prices.

dropping a 93/94 motor in a newer truck is going to require tearing the engine down as well as swapping other things over.

I'd be inclined to use the present engine and just rework it.

 Damn forgot about the differences there.

Thanks LT1FIRE, I saw that but knew it wouldn't work. It was a bummer because I would have done it.

hahahahaha, not with my wife. She wants her new vehicle and a cheap econobox will not make for a warm bed to crawl into.

and whose fault is it for setting the bar so damn high early on in the marriage? :D

sleeoffroad: could you list the parts, rough costs, details (or link) on what is required for a turbo 1FZFE build, advantages, disadvantages compared to a SC or normally aspirated truck?? IDK

New short block runs about $2787.06 with the smart shopper price.

Wow, there is something in the catalog that is actually more expensive than a steering box? Who would have thunk that....

This is probably a private conversation between you and Slee but the topic has been covered before I think. See if search pulls anything up.
