Finished my install last night.

Here are some pics documenting the install on a 2006 LC with NAV. I took the pictures while I was re-installing it so ignore any continuity errors with fasteners.

Remove the side vents, I used the trim tools from harbor freight to get them started, then they just pull straight out. You can remove the 2 connectors to get them out of the way, or just let them hang out.

Next unscrew the 4 bolts holding in the entire unit.

At this point I disconnected all the plugs and took the whole unit to the bench. It seems like a lot to pull out, but don't worry, the plugs are all unique and they can only go back one way.

Once at the bench I first used an 8mm wrench to break the bolts loose then finished them off with a screw driver.

There are 4 bolts that hold the tape deck in it's chassis, similar to a hard drive on a computer, they are the black ones.

There are 4 screws that hold the face plate to the fascia, remove them. On assembly be careful to not over torque, it's just plastic in there. I gave one an extra little twist and had it pop on me.

There are two bolts that hold the lower chassis to the lowest row of buttons. These sandwich the entire assembly. Take these out.

In between the tape deck and the Nav screen are 3 screws that hold the two sections of fascia together. Remove them. The one in the middle is a bit of a stretch so you will need a long screwdriver or socket extension.

Twist the fascia out of the way.

And pull the tape deck out.

The rest of the install can follow the OWL expedition instructions. I used a JIS Number 1 screw driver to get the little screws out.

Before reassembly, remember to put the lid back on the tape deck. I forgot and had to break it all down again and put it back on. I figured I might as well document the second time. My pain, your gain.

All done.

Thank you for the documentation!!

Since this thread is bumped, I have a new set of mounts almost ready to go. I slightly changed the design to accommodate the GX470 so I just need to test fit the new design before listing them on the site.

I think they should be back in stock this weekend assuming the modification didn't impact the fitment.

I have an 06 so this was very helpful... just need to find the time to do the install!

Nice detailed write-up. Now the million dollar question.........How'd you get so many pics in your post. I thought it cut you off at 5 downloads ? Just curious.

If you only have to do it once (remember to put that cover back on!) and don't run into any gremlins, it is a 30 minute job.

I hot linked the images to an IMGUR album

Sorry for the delay. I modified the design to accommodate a different ram ball in hopes of fitting the GX470 as well. I'm currently not able to find a GX to test on, so I scrapped the idea for now.

The new design does require a different ball which is linked in the item description on the site. PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION AND DONT ORDER THE WRONG BALL.

I'm now including the bolt/nut needed for the new ball as it looks better but is a special order item.

The price has been reduced $5 and I'm offering 15% off the media mounts this weekend for Father's day. Code: DADDAY

Thanks for the support!

This is the new design with the new ball:

The reason for the switch was two fold. Hopefully it will allow the GX to work, and I like it because it gives you more adjustability with your RAM accessory since it's positioned more horizontally

Awesome!! Been waiting for these to come back in stock. Just placed order.

Ordered! And I just ordered the old vertical ball yesterday! I'll try to cancel it and order the new style.

And you say it will provide more adjustability since it's more vertical, but in your pic it seems tilted more horizontal right? Will I still be able to keep the RAM arm and mount positioned close to the dash?

Also, can you post a pic of the bracket you made to hold your hand mic? Hopefully I can make something work since I'm using the X-Grip for my iPad Mini 4.

Good catch. Meant more horizontally. Edited. With this ball you can definitely get it closer to the dash, which I really like. I'll try and see if I can find a photo of the mic bracket. It's just a thin piece of aluminum that bolts between the tablet mount and the ball off of the tablet.

Ordered! It's time to start paying attention to the truck again.

Just sharing- I have the second released model using a upper and lower ram ball. Makes things a little crowded but I get to everything I need too.

Look great! When you day second released model, do you mean you ordered just this past weekend?

If so, can you post a photo of the ram balls on the mount?

Thanks!
