Look great! When you day second released model, do you mean you ordered just this past weekend?

If so, can you post a photo of the ram balls on the mount?

Thanks!
Not the most recent batch but the one previous. I this is the one that wasn’t a full plate but had a cut out and a foam piece was added.

Nice @socalmtbiker Also part # the upper/lower ball. Looking to do the same with ham mount/ipad mount.

I bought the ball that was listed then this

Just a 1” male and female ball

ahh I see. I forgot about people wanting double balls. I'm not certain that will work with the newest version because the lower side is much closer to the tape deck than it was previously. I may have another RAM ball laying around to try though.

Thanks for sharing photos!!

So I got the mount and everything installed. It is awesome!
I even bought your recommended Samsung Galaxy, Ram Mount, and stuff.
Can you spell out how you get your tablet to turn on and off with your car.

Your video mentions Tasker. I have never used this before. Would you be willing to share your Tasker settings that you use for this?

Just placed my order for my 'new' 2001 LX470 with Nav.

Query 1: Do you feel a 9.7" tablet would be too big for the space? I don't have any at the moment and there is a good price on Samsung s2's with T-mobile on Amazon at the moment.

Query 2: Would you mind posting an updated freshened list of everything needed in addition to the plate so that it all is in one place? I saw that some are using dual phone and tablet mounts; that's pretty cool. It would be great to include that in the list.

Thanks in advance for the assistance, and thanks loads for doing this in the first place!

Let me see if I can find something for you. There are other apps that are easier to work with than Tasker too.

I think 9.7 would be close. It depends how you feel about things being blocked from view. With my 8" tablet, I can see almost everything except the recirculation button. You may lose direct sight of the clock with a 9.7. can't comment for sure though.

The list on the first page is up to date with what I have. I don't want add other things as I haven't tested a lot of the stuff others are using. I can say that the new style may limit the ability to put a ball on the bottom and top as some have done with the older style brackets. I would suggest asking others on here what they bought specifically to see if they can let you know. I also suggest buying things from somewhere like Amazon so if they don't work out, you can just return them.

Ordered! And I just ordered the old vertical ball yesterday! I'll try to cancel it and order the new style.

And you say it will provide more adjustability since it's more vertical, but in your pic it seems tilted more horizontal right? Will I still be able to keep the RAM arm and mount positioned close to the dash?

Also, can you post a pic of the bracket you made to hold your hand mic? Hopefully I can make something work since I'm using the X-Grip for my iPad Mini 4.

Sorry it took so long. Totally forgot. I just used thin aluminum that I cut with a Dremel and bent on a small brake.

Ordered and received the new design. Thanks!!!

Have an Apple IPad 10.5” Pro. Do you think this device is too big for use with the Owl Mount? Looks like the devices used and mentioned in the last couple pages of this thread are much smaller and thought I’d ask before going through effort to install. Thanks.

Thanks for your purchase! I think others have installed ~10" tablets, but I can't speak to their size personally. Maybe someone who's installed a larger tablet can chime in.

Hi all (especially our benefactor/inventor and those that have put a larger tablet on the mount like NSF),

I went with a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7" tablet because I did want to try a larger screen and Amazon had a deal on a refurbished one. In hunting around the RAM website for the right mount for the tablet I came on this configuring tool. The thing is, they only use 1.5" balls for tablets in the tool.

Is the 1" ball on the small size for holding the weight on the end of the arm? Especially offroad?

Hi RT,

Your plate arrived safely, and that laser cutting is very nice. Thank you.

I looked and looked at the RAM mounts and I just didn't care for it. Not sure precisely why. Maybe it is that I am going to use both an 8" tablet and a large phone with my 2001 LX470 with Nav. The RAM system just looked kind of sloppy to me, and expensive too. So, of course, I ended up spending more on the mounting system I settled on, which is based on Smallrig's 15mm camera accessory mounting tubes and joints plus a couple of GUB phone/tablet mounts. Everything is aluminum or stainless and it looks quite nice, I think. And all items are available on Amazon. Here are a few photos:

Here are the parts that went into what you see here. I bought four 12" Smallrig 15mm rods and am cutting them up with a pipecutter--the 12" rods are inexpensive.

What's neat about this is that you can, by selecting rod lengths and angles, put the phone in just about any position or angle and lock it there.

Unfortunately, my truck is in the shop so I can't figure final sizes or distances, but I'm looking forward to doing that.

Once again, thanks for making the media mount plate!

Trivial suggestion, RT, but you might suggest that buyers get some semi-matte black spray paint as the bracket comes unpainted. (Ideally it would be nice if they came powder coated next production round.)

Good suggestion. I prefer VHT epoxy satin which can be purchased online or at advance Auto parts.

One issue with the powder coating is my location. We have one of the largest national labs in ABQ which ruins local pricing. I've had estimates as high as $40 per bracket for simple coating in pretty high quantities. Seems because the companies try to get contracts, they jack up their prices for everyone else so they can't be accused of over charging the contract.

I have the same issue with my laser cutting. I have to go out of state and pay shipping on all my metal because it's about 400% more to do it locally.

Just a heads up. I have one left in stock. I will be doing another run but will be out of the country for the next few weeks so I won't be able to get then back in stock for probably a month.

Whew, I think I just nabbed the last one!
