Today when i started my GX, a high pitched annoying alarm sounded and several lights in the dash lit up. The Brake, ABS, VSC and another light lit up. I ran it to my local mechanic, and they delivered news that made me want to throw up...Bad ABS and Hydraulic Pump assembly...$3,400 to fix. I am at a loss. I am into this rig now almost twice what it is worth, and not looking forward to shelling out this kind of money not knowing what is next.

I have searched and found similar issues with 100 series trucks, but nothing on the GX. Anybody here have any insight? Is this the same unit as the 100 series? If so, I am thinking i will try rebuild it befe i have it repaired at the shop.

That is a rare issue with the 100 LCs. Explore all your options and if you are handy you can save some $$. Not cheap any way you fix it though.

I don't have the code. I'll call and get it from the shop. I am fairly handy, but time isn't on my side. I'm out of town today but will probably take tomorrow off and see what I can do to fix it.

If you want a second opinion contact Scott at kaysville xpress. his main tech Sean is one of the best around this area. I'm sure if you mentioned his son in law Travis (me) he will give you the best deal possible

Oh they also do rcwilley financing. so if it's breaking the bank too much the rcwilley financing is actually a pretty good program. I think it's 0% interest on certain amounts.

So, the code they pulled is c1251. Not specific enough to know what exactly is wrong. I talked to the Lexus dealer, they think it is highly unlikely the Hyrdaulic Booster failed. The only way to confirm that is to get it to the Lexus dealer and pay them to diagnose. Not sure what to do, but I'm out of town till late tonight. I'm planning to get into it more tomorrow. I appreciate the replies.

locked pump or open to ground...could be a lot of things other than complete failure (including failing fluid quality). When was the last flush?

According to the mechanic, it is leaking brake fluid too. I am having it towed to Lexus tomorrow for further diagnostics. It's my luck I will have to replace the whole unit, but m holding out hope they will be able to isolate the exact problem and resolve it for a more bank account friendly solution.

I opted to have the dealer replace the unit. I had the GX towed to Lexus for a 2nd opinion, and so they could read the exact code. They said the unit needed to be replaced. Total bill was just north of $3,500. I also asked them to inspect the vehicle and let me know if anything else is in need of repair. Both sides of the Rack & Pinion are leaking as well. I will tackle that this fall or winter. It's not so bad I have to worry right now.

I asked to talk to the tech that did the replacement, and he said it was the lower motor that went out on mine, but you can't just order the motor. I asked for my old unit, and they gave it to me. I will hang on to it, and maybe try to fix it then sell it used.

I drove the GX down to Cedar City yesterday, and did a detour to Red Canyon outside of Bryce. It is a nice enough vehicle. Right now, with the amount of money I have in it, I'm going to keep it and fix the issues that arise.

I had my brake , ABS, VSC lights all come on and off randomly last month on my GX470...and thought I was headed down he same path. Turns out there was a broken wire to the ABS sensor near the left rear wheel. A simple splice fixed the problem and am back on the road, luckily, I didn't have a bigger issue as noted above. Note to everyone, check the wiring completely, before replacing expensive parts! How the wire got sliced or broken I have no idea, other than it might have happened when I had new socks and a lift put on in January???

Very possible. The rear ABS wires are extremely vulnerable. I rerouted mine a bit and reversed some clips to isolate them a bit.
