Just make sure that you have a good quality breaker bar. Today I changed out the crank seal on my 97 LX and used the 30mm/breaker bar tied to the frame to remove the crank bolt. I broke 2 el cheapo 1/2" breaker bars before I got out my 30+ year old Snap-on breaker. It worked ok but next time I think I'm going to fab a crank holding tool.

1/2 drive tools should only be used up to a max of 250 foot pounds. Once you exceed 250 foot pounds, for safety reasons you really need to step up to 3/4 inch drive which is good up to 600 foot pounds. Above 600 foot pounds you need to step up to 1 inch drive.

Some days you've just got ah love Craigs list, not that i was looking, but i came across such a great deal today that i just couldn't pass it by. I bought a Snap On 3/4 inch drive, 400 foot pound torque wrench for the bargain price of 75 dollars. Not only did this kit come with the torque wrench, but it also included an "extra" handle to make the removable ratchet head into a stand alone ratchet. This new addition to my tool box should make short work of removing, and installing my balancer nut.

Stolen goods? There's a lot of that going around lately. I doubt someone who legitimately owned that would sell it for $75.

Good score. Was it a relative selling it from someone who passed away?
That's how I've picked up some Snap on tools at yard sales, relatives often just want to sell it and move on.

No it wasn't stolen, the old guy i got it from was selling his current home to get ready to move himself, and his wife into a one bedroom assisted living apartment. So he was selling off all his tools and other household items to downsize, because they wouldn't have room for that much stuff in their new apartment. Kind of sad really, but i guess we all have this to look forward to someday.

Thanks @CPACruiser

No more 14mm Deep socket flex plate bolt trick for me. One of them was loose, it looks like it was about to tear apart. I'll be replacing all six flexplate bolts.

Glad you have the tool for the job now 👍🏻

Thanks for the support. Your flex plate thanks you too 😉

I bet someone will want to rent it from you

I am tackling this problem right now. As I sized up bar stock to make one, I had a brain wave (as Jeremy Clarkson would say), and went this route … sacrificed a pair of Harbor Freight knock-off Vice Grip welding pliers. We’ll see how it works.

I drilled out the swivel feet rivets and then embiggened the holes for the 8mm bolts and Bob’s your auntie

That's super cool, does it work? It seems like you need to be able to hold that against a tremendous amount of pressure, and the handles seem quite short compared to a breaker bar. Please report on how it works out. Cool idea, BTW. Top points for ingenuity.

I built this probably 15 or so years ago. It has been used dozens of times.

For that really tight nut or bolt that just won't move, sometimes you need a special tool, Over the course of my wrench turning life I've worked on some big equipment that required high amounts of torque to install, and remove hardware,

To solve that problem i bought a torque multiplier that with just 15 foot pounds of input torque from it's 3/8 inch drive handle, will produce up to 1200 foot pounds of output torque on it's 3/4 inch output shaft,

The nice thing about this set is the 2 piece reaction bar that came with the multiplier, i was able to drill some extra holes in it, and it works perfect for holding my Land Cruiser balancer,
